Could it be?
This thread might belong somewhere else, but because of the impact of the NBA Lotterey as it relates to the topic itself, I thought I would place it here. While I am not asking what WAS the biggest moment (Sucessful lottery to "Keep the Pacers", Colts moving to town, Making the NBA Finals, winning the Super Bowl - all top that list!), I think today has the potential to "economically & status-wise" top all of those!
While most on the surface may not agree, but IMO today is likely the BIGGEST single Sports day in our city's history! Today will help shape the landscape of sports, and much more, in this city FOREVER!!!
Why you ask?:
Reason 1: Today, he city will find out if we are awarded the 2012 Super Bowl, a mark of pride & respect in the sporting community, and a possible 350 million- 500 million economic impact it will bring. It will bring weeks of focus and attention to this city and will showcase us to the world, possibly bringing many new business opportunities here.
Reason 2: The NBA Lottery is tonight. While I expect many of you to immediately blow this off, let me explain. Getting a break (a Top 3 pick) tonight could be the first step to rebuilding this team back to one this city will support. It was not that long ago this city had to have a lottery to save the Pacer franchise here. Having an NBA team, & the label of being a "major league city" is what helped us land the Colts here years later (& the opportunity of hosting a Super Bowl now!). The support a top pick brings will hopefully stop the bleeding the team is suffering & help secure their place here in this city for years to come. It also affects the WNBA's Fever, & the viability of Conseco Fieldhouse itself. If the Pacers could "hit big", & bring a "star", the impact there is unmeasurable. How much $$$ did MJ bring Chicago/ does LeBron bring Cleveland? Look what "hitting the lottery" did for San Antonio! Think T.Duncan & the 3 NBA Championships (& counting) have brought that city any economic benefit? Darn right it has!!!
