I don't remember hearing the uproar when DD was resigned.
DD wasn't connected to attempted murder, was he? Besides, it really only proves the point that the city will support bad characters if they're winners. Or, more importantly, if they've got "juice", which the Pacers had when Dale was here the first time, and the Colts have now.

Don't you think you should wait before all of the facts come out? I understand that you want the Colts image to suffer, but please, let's just wait until the Philadelphia PD finish their investigation.

I still don't get why so many people have such a tough time figuring this out. The Colts image starts and ends with the tone of Manning/Dungy/Irsay, and to a lesser extent, Harrison/Wayne/Sanders/Freeney. These are the faces of the Colts, and they have set a very clean image for the team and city (Harrison gets the benefit of the doubt until we know the facts).

Dominic Rhodes? WHO CARES? The Colts are fine with or without Dominic Rhodes. Dominic Rhodes is insignificant as far as people's perception to the Indianapolis Colts. I don't think the Colts lost any fans last year when Dominic Rhodes left the team. In fact, their popularity only grew. Dominic Rhodes leaving the team before last year didn't cause anyone to reconsider if they still wanted to Colts games. Hell, not even Edgerinn James leaving put a dink in the popularity of the team!

In the NFL, guys come and go by the dozen every year. A guy like Rhodes, while a good player, is easily replaceable. His DUI/letting go of by the team doesn't even put a dink in the armor of the image that Manning/Dungy have built for the Indianapolis Colts.

The Pacers on the other hand have had their best players at the center of controversy. Let's see, the brawl involved O'Neal, Artest, and Jackson...arguably our three best players at the time. Furthermore, O'Neal and Artest WERE the Pacers, and set the image for the team at the time. If it would have been scrubs instead of the two best players on the team fighting fans, then the team would have been able to overcome it easier. But all of the scrutiny that the Pacers face is because of the domino effect set forth by having your two best players at the center of a nationally televised brawl. You don't easily recover from something like that, and all of the other incidents (club rio, nightclub) just add fuel to the fire.

If Manning and Harrison ever fought with fans (or did something similar), then the Colts suffer what the Pacers have for the past 4 years. But sorry, Dominic Rhodes getting arrested for a DUI isn't going to cut it. The Colts can do with or without Dominic Rhodes, and their team and "image" is the same either way. Dominic Rhodes is insignificant as far as the image that the Indianapolis Colts put on is concerned. The organization is no different without him. Manning? His actions definitely define how the organization is perceived. He is the equivalent to Artest/O'Neal at the time of the brawl.

Replace Artest/O'Neal in the brawl with John Edwards/James Jones. Then do you really think the Pacers suffer as much as they have for the past 4 years? Doubtful. They would have cut them and been done with it. Those guys were as about as important to the Pacers image as Dom Rhodes is now.

Why do people have such a tough time understanding this?

If the pacers re-signed a guy who was in some sort of trouble the pacers would be crucified by the media and the fans
Technically you are right. But the Pacers recent history of coming up with nothing BUT idiots carries a lot of weight.

All over the local news tonight they were talking about how he has to wear #38 until Bullitt gives up the 33.

I still hope Hart sees most of the backup carries.
Do be suprised if we have a RB battle come beginning of next season.
