Default DE Jared Allen traded to Vikings

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3362701

Allen signs new contract with Minnesota (previously franchised by KC). KC receives Minnesota's 2008 1st round pick (17th), 3rd round pick (82nd), and a swap of 6th round picks.

All in all, seems like a pretty fair deal for both sides. KC's going nowhere this year, and now Minny seems to have a good shot to win the NFC North.

edit: Apparently KC also received a second third round pick from Minnesota, somewhere in the 80 range. Forgive me for being too lazy to look up the specific pick. If Minnesota does any less than win the NFC North they will probably regret this deal, but I don't see much challenge for them in that regard.

The Vikings gave up a lot both in terms of picks and financial flexibility, but I think this was a pretty even deal. Jared Allen is entering his prime and is a top 5 defender in the league and it is not often that you can acquire a player like that going into his best years. The Vikings may be good enough to come out of the NFC next year assuming they can get some semblance of a passing game going..because their defense and running game are going to be very scary. They have a top 5 defense, best rushing offensive line, and best RB in the league.

    Their D-line is frightening.

The Williams' and Allen..that's far and away the best defensive line in the league. Their biggest problem will be their secondary like it has been for the past few years.

I do believe we get the pleasure of playing them this year...
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Couldn't be happier about this trade. Everyone knows that the best way to rebuild in the NFL is through the draft, and as mentioned, the Chiefs weren't a playoff team. Also, that's a lot of picks for a guy we drafted as a long snapper, especially considering that current players don't usually get you a lot of picks like this.

I'm kinda hoping we draft Matt Ryan with our pick, and then I'm hoping one of the good O-linemen drop into Minnesota's spot. I'm afraid Herm's got too much confidence in Brody Croyle, though, and will draft for defense. Then again, if Chris Long drops, all bets are off

Another thing that nobody mentioned is that Allen has had some off the field issues. I don't think KC wants anyone distracting their young guys. Also, they would have only had Allen's service for another year as he was on the last year of his deal and would have definitely signed with another team. Pretty sweet deal for KC..and I am happy for them because KC is another team I really like in the AFC besides the Pats.

Good call, although Carl Peterson generally does a good job retaining his guys if he really wants to keep them. As for off-field incidents, thank goodness! I'd have to seriously consider giving up sports if I was a fan of both the Pacers and, say, the Bengals.
