    No. I don't like Shareef.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Isn't Derek Anderson another guy from the former "Jailblazers" who got in trouble with the law from time to time?

And I too, am not a big fan of Shareef.

I don't know, we get rid of two bad contracts. Rahim can score, but you have to use him correctly. He is a little like AL offensively, but not as good defensively. Anderson has been injured a ton in his career, when healthy he is a good defender.

let's look at the new lineup
    Tinsley
    Anderson
    Ron
    J.O
    Jeff

    Reggie,Freddie, AJ, Bender, Rahim.

    Interesting

I don't think Anderson has been in any trouble at all.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. It seemed that Carlisle was on to something when he started Croshere.

    We need scoring!!!

Rahim's defense is horrible, he would not start. Although he has never played in a good system

OTOH, he is atheletic and young. Defense can be taught, as you said, in the right system. Kevin O'neil could be the one to teach it as well.

    This intrigues me.

DA's claim to fame in college and with the Cavs *was* his defense... prior to suffering all those injuries. Truthfully, I don't seem him enough these days to know anything about his current defensive capabilities.

Shareef... well, he's this generation's Clark Kellogg. All that talent, but he has no idea how to actually win a ballgame. Perhaps Rick's system would help him? He seems like he wants to learn how to win, but he's always been in a crappy environment.

Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

I agree that Shareef has always been on crappy teams, but I don't see the comparison to Clark Kellogg. Clark was on bad teams and put up great stats (20-10) and didn't win, but were it not for a knee injury he would have been a great player. I never got the felling that Clark was in it for the stats and personal glory, and I'm not sure about Shareef in that regard. I also never though of Clark as a guy who rested on defense like Shareef does.

This is an interesting trade proposal because of the offense talent coming back and the bad contracts going out. I'd have questions about how they would fit in, though.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

Defense is a lot about mindset. Let's face it - playing with Glenn Robinson and on those pathetic Grizzly teams is hardly a way to get defensive inspiration. Even Ratliff wasn't as good defensively as he was with Philly though he still got his blocks.

From all indications, A-R isn't lazy or any sort of attitude problem. I don't see why he wouldn't pick it up on D if he was surrounded by players and coaches who stressed it.

I don't see Portland doing anything but laughing though. Granted, Harrington's a good player but he isn't as good as A-R and they have no use for Croshere.

Once again, the proposed trade has two reserves in exchange for two starters (well, one starter and a guy who averaged 20 ppg as a starter and was an all-star not too long ago). Portland can do much better.

    edit: Make that 3 reserves.

Portland has a shortage of guards. They won't trade away Anderson. Without getting guards in return.

Pollard, as a throw-in, has zero trade appeal.

BTW -- Anderson is a good citizen and a good guy. The knock on him is that he gets injured a lot and doesn't seem to be very tough.

Anderson played in Cleveland and after that in San Antonio, where he put up some very decent numbers and they wanted him to stay, But he elected to go for the bigger money. Big mistake of his if you ask me.

I like DA. Don't like Shareef. But if we can make another trade and send shareef away for a Dampier or other center, this would be a pretty good deal. DA isn't the ideal (TMac, JRich, Q) Reggie heir, but he isn't bad at all.

IIRC, Clark and Herb could only go 9-9 against the Big-Ten when they were teammates at Ohio State. Why did Pacers management believe they could beat team up to beat NBA teams? They were talented but they were never winners.

It seems like Shareef will probably never be a 'winner' if he's the first, second or third option. In this scenario (which Portland would never agree to), he'd be the Pacers' fourth option (after JO, Ron and DA).
