Can't find anyone to pay me to drink...so, serious hobbyist is the status, I guess.

Geezer may be able to write it off as a tax break if he does real estate. The joy of meeting the public and all.

I always offer people a business card.........and I don't care where I go, the topic of real estate ALWAYS comes up, without my urging even.

It's not the business cards we're talking about Geezer, it's the bloated (bar tab) expense reports.

The sound of Wild Turkey's breathing a sigh of relief that Twes won't be out to bust them this weekend.

I bought The caddie in April, by new Years I had logged 31,000 miles on it. I accounted 19,000 miles for RE purposes. (daily log)

My accountant said that since I was already showing a loss for the year if I tried to claim all of that mileage it would invite an automatic audit (I had receipts for EVERYTHING....but mileage). He claimed only 5000 of those 19000 miles. That's 14000 miles he didn't want me to claim, and since I always listen to his advise, I didn't. But 14000 x 42 cents per mile deduction = $5,880 deduction. And since I owed over 6K this year....well, that extra deduction would have been nice.

Aren't those no longer allowed per the IRS?

Who the heck is your accountant?

If you have receipts, there is no reason you shouldn't have claimed the extra deduction. I can't imagine the red flag would have been raised so high. It's still very unlikely you would have been audited . . . and if you were, you've got support, and it's not like they would disallow the deduction totally.

I do understand if he's ultra-conservative though and if there are other things you don't want them to see.

Ya know, like all those bodies Twes has buried near your yard.

Those are claimed as children nos. 5,6, and 7 (I'll hafta see if I can dig up a few more dependents). That's the rub...daily log, not receipts. Although my gas bill for the month of March was just a touch over $500....my car alone.

Seriously, I wasn't too happy with the guy...he's good but you can be too good too. (at one time he was one of the General's lawyers)

I'm having a case of Indy-envy. Get down there today, set my booth up, bags & handouts are going like crazy so I decide to pull out my laptop and just for kicks check for internet. A couple pop up, one has a good signal and I give it a shot - figure for sure it'll ask for a verification code or for me to pay $7/day or something.

Nope - instant broadband. And now I sit here typing with dial-up.

I'll get over it next time I wander around my pasture but damn . . .

There are nights I can sit on my couch and pull in 6 wireless networks.

I don't link to them but I see them.

    Bags and handouts?

About Christmas time I invested in a satellite card for my laptop. I've used it several times and don't mind the extra expense. It's abusiness expense for me tho...or I might nt pay that per month fee.
