    Oooooooooooooooooooooooh

I can hardly move. I ache in places I didn't know I had.

But the party was a great success. I'm guessing somewhere around 200 people or more. I know I have never seen that many people in my house at one time before. It was non-stop throughout the day and into the night. Finally broke up about 10:30....and I stayed awake the whole time (you don't know what an accomplishment that is!!)

I discovered Bitburger beer (German) and a Polish beer that sounds like it's pronounced VODKA. And then there were the Polish sausages purchased in Chicago that I now have a private stash of..... The father of the young lady that stays with us occasionally really came thru on that!!

And the Air Force Fly-over was a huge success.

and thank Heaven I have two years before I have to do this again.

Too bad - seems a shame to give up 2nd base on a technicality.

It's Better To Drink Beer After Exercise Than Water

Submitted by Julie on November 2, 2007 - 8:47pm. Diet & Fitness Health Health & Science Research

Researchers at Granada University in Spain have come across a discovery that will undoubtedly please athletes and sports enthusiasts - a pint of beer post-workout or match is better at rehydrating the human body than water.

Professor Manuel Garzon, a member of Granada's medical faculty, made the finding after tests on 25 students over several months. Researchers believe that it is the sugars, salts, and bubbles in a beer that may help people absorb fluids more quickly.

The subjects in the study were asked to run on a treadmill at temperatures of 104F (40C) until they were close to exhaustion. Once they had reached the point of giving up, researchers measured their hydration levels, motor skills, and concentration ability.

Half of the subjects were given two half pints of Spanish lager to drink, and the other half were given just water.

Garzon said that the rehydration effection in those who were given beer was "slightly better" than those who were given only water. He also believes that the carbon dioxide in beer helps quench thirst more quickly, and that beer's carbohydrates replace calories lost during physical exertion.

The average person loses around 1 liter (33oz) of water for every hour of exercise in sweat. Rehydrating after a workout is crucial, as a lack of hydration is more likely to make one feel tired, fuzzyheaded, and suffer from headaches.

Based on the results of the study, researchers recommend moderate consumption of beer as a part of athletes' diets. "Moderate consumption" for men is 500ml per day, and for women is 250ml per day.

So that explains why Babe Ruth was so good. His method of training was nearly 100 years ahead of its time.

Alcohol's always been a great "boost" because of the carbs. Seems goofy but if you're really tired one drink will help get you going. Your body uses it for fuel and the alcohol helps you absorb it faster. Of course after the 1st one you get into diminishing returns. And it probably doesn't hold true for straight vodka or moonshine.

I've always done the "one beer on a hot day after I've finished something strenuous" thing. Plus alcohol dilates your blood vessels which helps cool you down.

Beer is a magical elixir. Several of 'em also make me smart, witty and better looking - and just about the funniest person on Earth, especially when I'm talking to women.

You may remember that my diabetic diatician authorized bourbon as my allowed drink. The distilled booze has a negative effect upon my blood sugar.

    Beer on the other hand...............

the problem is that the women appear a lot better--- the "beer goggles effect"--- and later you sober up and think "Hmmm, what was I seeing. I hope I didn't promise anything here..."

geezer (or maybe Twes), one or both of you need to lock up your crossbows. Somebody is using one to fend off cows in Florida, keeping them away from his prized psychedelic mushrooms.

Yes, but this is where the "I was drunk" get out of jail free explanation comes in. The visual can be a bit disconcerting the first time but eventually you get used to it.

    Or so I've heard ...

This will not be a good day.
    Hope everything turns out OK.

I pulled an intelligent one yesterday.

Saturday I was sick - felt awful. One-day bug. Didn't eat anything, just lay around all day. Sunday I felt better so I was outside, trying to make up for lost time. Anyway, I'm moving some lumber around and miss my footing while carrying some 2X12 oak - heavy stuff. Catch my balance and obliterate my back - really bad though I didn't realize it until I sat down for a minute and it tightened up.

So yesterday I pop a Vicodin before going to work - only way I can make it. Unfortunately, I don't eat breakfast, my stomach's still a little off, I haven't eaten much in two days and I completely spaced the "take with food" rule.

I tried to make it through about 3 hours at work before finally giving it up and going home - all I did was sleep and munch a few saltines.

At least today the pain's tolerable without the Vikes. But yesterday me and my brain were in two different zip codes. Plus the dream with the 4-headed giant spider-snake goo monster is still with me.

You mean they ain't real!?!?!?!?! Oh praise be. I cannot take Vicodin...gimme Darvon and I'll suffer with the left over pain.

That back pain is a killer, but the best medication I ever found for it....good ol' Midol. Seriously, it's a muscle relaxant...it works.

Of course I get a little cranky every 28 days.....
