You know you're in for the long haul when "renovation" starts with a body count on rats.

Very nice. You guys should have lined them up like a safari picture with your .22's and a pile of dead rats.

Kids, when I was a youngster there were no limits on rats and we could shoot until our shoulders hurt.

I'd say that guy owed you.
There were only two issues - one was making sure we had hollow points - didn't want to plunk anyone who might have come up the drive - or if someone else showed up early.

The other was when I asked if he had his 12-guage. I think he thought that was a little excessive.

I'll never forget the time I shot a squirrel with my Uncle's elephant rifle (he didn't hunt 'em - just a collector). That was pretty impressive (so was the kick).

If only I could afford to tear down the house that's there and rebuild something worthwhile....
You should do like me - my mortgage is paid this winter and in a year or two the bulldozer's coming in and I'm building the house I want.

I mostly bought the place for the acreage - the house (a grand 930 square feet) was just to live in while I paid it off.

    I used to - started with a 5 - I'm thinking a .577 or.578 - it wasn't a new gun. Single-shot bolt.

    SOunds like a monster.

Indiana laws are funny. No rifles for deer hunting... well let me stop right there. No rifles with rifle cartridges allowed for deer hunting but no restrictions on coyote guns.

If it's not safe to shoot a 30.06 at a deer how is it safe to shoot one at a coyote?

    You have to love Indiana.

I would LOVE to live on an acreage.

I would really love to live on 200 acres but I'd settle for an acreage and have 200 acre leases to hunt on.

    I'm sick of the burbs.

Yeah - growing up in NY I loved my thirty-ought-six to death.

Well, maybe not that much - but I was pretty surgical with it.

    Never cared for shotguns much.

A slug will definitely put them down but it's a whole different world slinging those things.

I'm not big on them either.

I love bow hunting more than anything.

If I was 10 years closer to retirement I would SERIOUSLY look at New Mexico. Figure I could buy some raw land, rent it out (not that you get much for it there) and sell my place here which would give me the $$$ to build a house there.

Interesting. I'm sure I could live there. I'd like the space and solitude.

But I'd miss the hardwood greens of the midwest or the birch stands of the north.

When I was in my 20's I tried hard to get a job in Alaska or the Pacific Northwest.

I sent a lot of resumes but no luck. I probably should have gone there but when you're broke that can be challenging.

    It just wasn't my destiny.

I'll still get up there at some point. Probably not to live but I've got to see it (Alaska)

I'm kind of curious whether we'll see repeat corn plantings this year with all of the ethanol production.

I had corn on my lease this year and beans the 2 years prior.

Some - not as much as last year. Soybean prices were flying until the March 31 planting intentions report - that showed a drop in corn and increase in bean acreage and corn shot up and beans shot down, though it's recovered nicely since. Some people will switch but by now seed's already been ordered, fertilizer may have been applied and even residual (long-lasting) herbicides.

Personally I think traders are missing something. Nice to focus on the planting intentions but stocks came out the same day and showed soybean stocks down 20% and corn stocks up 13% over last March. Lot of volatility to work itself out yet.

Is this random enough for this thread?

That depends on what we talk about next.

What's this about frying bacon and burning your nipples off?

I wonder if it will hit the ethanol makers if/when they announce those big oil fields in Prudhoome Bay and North Dakota. Sometime around May 1 is the speculation.

I read today that 500 jobs are being dumped at the big L.

Not a good thing for Indianapolis.

I'm sure you were around for that - back in the PFFL days. I decided to make breakfast topless one day.

    Bad move.

If it drops oil below $50/barrel it'll bother them.

Of course if oil drops below $50/barrel the shale oil projects won't happen anyway.

The words Topless and breakfast have always been attached to much more pleasant images in my head.

    No offense to DK.

One time I was posting a property in the summer. About 40 acres I was putting no hunting signs all around.

    I wore shorts.

And I got into briars big time.

    Real bright.

I looked like I'd wrestled a mountain lion when I got out of there.

(For some reason you have to copy paste this for it to work)

You sell this one Geezer and you could probably take the rest of the week off.
