Thread: Possible Free Agent Signings

  1. #1

    Default Possible Free Agent Signings

There are some options for the Pacers to pick up some free agents this summer if the Simons want to pay more luxury tax. If this team wants to get better fast they can add Antawn Jamison who would be an outstanding fit opposite JO, but I doubt Washington will let him slip through their fingers after this season.

Personally, I think the Pacers should think young and start to rebuild. Patrick O'Bryant (center for Golden State) will be an unrestricted free agent after this year. He's a young and talented big man. Gerald Green will be an unrestricted free agent. Another young, talented potential star or atleast good scorer. Or even better if the Pacers can somehow get Josh Smith, a restricted free agent, from the Hawks. I realize the team is stacked on the wings, but a combination of Smith and Granger on the wings is something to build on for the future. What do y'all think?

We're over the cap, the most we could offer is the MLE (around $6M) unless a team wants to work out a sign & trade for whatever reason.

O'Bryant is a mildly intriguing prospect. A former lottery pick center who's never been given much of a chance with the Warriors. If he could be had for a reasonable amount (say, $3M~) he'd probably be worth a look.

What about Shaun Livingston? His injury history would probably scare the Pacer's away, but if he could be had for relatively cheap, he'd be an interesting pickup. He's still just 22, his upside is still there provided he can stay healthy. Actually, now that I've thought about it, I'd take Livingston in a wheel chair over a healthy Diener.

I'd take Shaun Livingston and his rubber knee-cap any day of the week.

I think PO'Bryant would be a solid replacement for Hulk.

if we had any sort of cap space, i'd say go after beno udrih. he's proven himself to be a starting quality pg this season, and the kings can only offer the mle to him, i believe.

unfortunately, we don't have that cap space.

pietrus is another name to consider. good wing defender of course, and he finally seems to be playing under control.

but, i highly doubt we use our mle, due to luxury tax. we can get a little breathing room this summer, say by trading j.o. for a 25% smaller deal (like carter + filler), but using the mle would just put us in a bind in '09, which is when danny's extension would kick in.

jamison will probably get an above mle deal from the wiz.

o'bryant... i dunno. personally i like randolph morris more. i like a sane hulk even better, but oh well.

green is ok if you pick him up cheap. not much reason otherwise - given the choice, i'd rather have pietrus' defense.

josh smith is getting a max deal, or near max anyway. no chance.

Isn't Gerald Green an unrestricted free agent right now? I thought he got cut by the Rockets. There must be some reason that nobody wants him. I'm very glad we didn't pick him over Danny.

No way we're getting Jamison or Smith or any FA of note unless it's in a sign and trade. We're not paying the luxury tax.

I am intrigued by O'Bryant and Livingston, if either one comes cheap, we should go for it.

I'm starting to wonder if we'll even resign Rush.

Bobcats might go after Josh Smith and look to shop Gerald Wallace or do a sign and trade deal. Same mold but Josh has a higher upside.

Shaun Livingston? Yes please. Assuming he can stay healthy he could be a very strong pick up.

Gerald Wallace has some serious concussion issues (as all concussions are serious), but is a very good all-around player. Only problem is he's another 3 and we're okay at 3. It's 1 and 5 that need the most work.

I was talking that Atl might do a sign and trade. No way get get Wallace with the history of injuries we have.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

People quit jumping the gun. Lets see how this season pans out and where we are drafting at. I belive New Jersey is in tank mode along w/ the Bucks. So ATL, Pacers, Bulls are going to make the playoffs. I do not know which teams will but we have a shot.

Obviously the Pacers aren't going to be "turned around" through free agency

It's obvious we need help even if we do make the playoffs and there are going to be some shakeups (hopefully) this offseason, so I don't think this is jumping the gun at all.

Tank Mode? The East is just this bad. They don't have to tank, and neither do we. That said, I still don't know if we'll make the playoffs.

So you have three teams making the 8th seed?

No I said ATL, Bulls, Pacers
I do not know which teams will make the playoffs but New Jersey & the bucks seem to be in tank mode.

You could take the best players from ATL, Chicago, and Pacers and you might not be able to beat the Celtics.

I don't think they will want to pay any more luxury tax, the sentiment on this board as far as I can tell agrees with me. There may even be quotes by the Simons suggesting that they don't want to pay more luxury tax, I don't know.

I don't see us signing any free agents outright per say, but maybe we could get an okay prospect like O'Bryant via trade. I think his numbers work with Shawne Williams, and the truth is we'll be getting .40 on the dollar for trades this summer if we do indeed unload bad apples.

If we make the playoffs or not is huge for our organization via draft.

If we get a top 3 pick vs a 15 has a lot to do with free agency. I like Shaun Livingston but do we need him if we land D Rose of Memphis (NO) I like Patrick O'Bryant as well as a back up big man do we need him if we draft Thabeet (NO).

I think the biggest off season move will be the retirement of Jermaine O'neal.

Your guess is as good as mine.
The favorite would be Chicago IMO They have too much talent on their roster to not win 35 games.
I like the Pacers Schedule but can we win four or five games in a row and get hot? Tonights game against Charlotte is the biggest game of the current season.

    Francisco Elson

    Bonzi Wells

    Eduardo Najera

Trade for Francisco Garcia or resign Rush. Make me happy and do both.

    Chris Duhon

At #9 take the best player available (Mayo? Griffin?) or trade back and get a Collison or Arthur or Thabeet and another pick. Not sold on Augustin

Someone I would like in the 2nd is Courtney Lee or Sam Young, but they'll be gone by then most likely.
