That is awesome! It goes to show you - defense does make for entertaining basketball!!! A lot of people like to watch NCAA over NBA...and when they see a series like that it doesn't bother you because both teams are playing hard on both ends of the floor.

Or maybe it was just all Lakers fans watching, scouting out who they'd play next?

Just supports the argument that all the media morons should have been playing up the series instead of ripping it apart for being ugly basketball. Seems some fans do appreciate intense playoff basketball, even if they don't score 100 points.

here is another article about both east and west ratings.
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playof...ory?id=1815347

NEW YORK -- Detroit Pistons' win over Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals was the most-watched basketball game ever on ESPN.

TNT's coverage of Game 6 of the Western Conference finals between Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday was watched in 6.5 million households, the most ever for an NBA playoff game on cable.

Tuesday's game between the Pistons and Pacers, which earned a 5.0 rating, was seen in an average of more than 4.4 million households, breaking the previous record of 3.8 million households that watched this year's NCAA women's basketball championship game between Tennessee and Connecticut.

Each rating is equal to 883,000 households.

The ratings for the six games of the Eastern Conference finals averaged a 3.8, up 36 percent from last year's 2.8 for two games. The 26 playoff games broadcast by ESPN averaged a 2.7 rating, up 13 percent from the 2.4 for 20 games last season.

TNT's coverage of 43 playoff games got a 3.4 national cable rating, up 10 percent from last year's 3.1 -- when the cable channel aired 46 games. The six games of the Western Conference finals averaged a 6.3 rating, up 38 percent from the previous year's 4.6.

The cable rating is the percentage of all homes with cable service, whether or not televisions are in use. TNT is available in about 82 percent of households in the United States.

What surprises me more than that is that the old record was held by a women's hoops game.

Well, its not exactly like ESPN does a great job with any basketball games. Yes, they show a lot of them, but they treat most of them (except certain ACC games) as a chore, instead of an event. And even then, they have to force Dick "Don't give me a telestrator, I can't even diagram a 2-3 zone" Vitale down our throats.

    Snobs.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Nope, it means that the Pistons and the Lakers and the Timberwolves will be on TV more next year.

Since all 82 Lakers games will be on national TV, the Pacers will be on twice.
