Default Mike Dunleavy on the Smiley morning show this morning (3/4)

Nothing too special here, just a little 15 minute interview with Dunleavy. Good for a laugh or two. I'm just usually an observer on here and I didn't see this posted so I thought I would put it up....

I heard it on my way in this morning. Dunleavy seems like a good guy and got to show some personality.

In case anyone is interested, here's the link for the Mike Dunleavy song on Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=SvphTqMvGWo

    Some of Mike's comments;

Was roommates with Shane Battier at Duke.

Likes the Pacers and thinks they have a bunch of good guys.

Says David Harrison is the whitest black guy he knows, really enjoys him.

Says Jeff Foster is paranoid, always thinks someone is out to get him.

    He's getting married this Summer.

Likes to beat his dad better than anyone.

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.

Or it is the result of the number of times he has been replaced as a starter, only to resurface again.

The Pacers should be putting Dun Dun much more in the public light with interviews, tv shows, stuff like that. Same with Danny and maybe Travis as he gets a little more well known with the caverage fans.

    Lol@the song btw

I totally agree with this. With all this bad PR stuff that is going on.....TPTB need to get players like Dunleavy, Granger, Travis and even Murphy out there more.

I listen to the interview and he really sounds like a "down to Earth" kind of guy.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

I didn't see it covered in the Bird/Walsh/Simons threads and didn't think of it myself, but shouldn't this very thing be a massive strike vs. all of them? Why isn't stuff like this happening more?

If any of these guys can get out and show a likeable personality why aren't they doing so? Heck, pay them a bonus if need be. This team doesn't just need positive PR, they need casual fans to even know that these player's exist. Hard to sell tickets to people that couldn't name the starting lineup for the last 2 months.

I don't know if this interview was setup by the Pacers outstanding PR/Marketing group ( which maybe giving them far more credit then not ).....but when I say that Dunleavy comes across as a "down to earth type of guy"....that's the impression that I got from the interview.

You would think that this is a "No-Brainer" especially with all the bad PR that we have that the players that are leading the team while JONeal is out ( which happens to be the "milk drinkers" ) go out and show that the entire team isn't "all that bad".

Did he really say "David harrison is the whitest black guy I know, I really enjoy him" WTF kinda comment is that? Is that supposed to be a compliment, as in he's not a thug like most black people I know... /boggle

Whats even more amsuing is all of you think he needs to be our PR man after this guy goes on TV and says this crap...

I know what it means to me, because I tell one of my black friends that all the time.

It is giving in to some racial undertones, but not calling all black people thugs. It might be the way they dress. They could look like the just walked out of a Abercrombie magazine, or simply the way they talk.

I wouldn't classify that as a compliment, or a put down. It's more like a joke, I guess.

It's a hard to explain on the internet, that's for sure.

EDIT: It's not meant as demeaning in any way, shape, or form. I'm sure they poke fun at some of the things he says or does.

    Nice chip.

If anyone should be upset it's white people since the reference seems to infer nerd/dork/unhip/uptight/hippy/etc. Not a thug? Dude got a 3 strikes pot suspension. His nickname is Hulk for a reason. There was a post listing all his outrageous college antics, most of which featured typical testosterone laden jock violence on inanimate objects.

No one thinks his "whiteness" means Mr. Clean Cut. More likely it means he's a typical Colorado crunchy granola (thus the pot), but with a blend of brutish jock to go with it. You know, probably like Ryan Leaf.

yep, pretty sure it was Smiley that made the remark about him being the whitest black guy he knows.

And I don't know why everyone is so uptight about this. If you have a group of friends that are of mixed race, and you're comfortable with each other, you're eventually going to make cracks about each other's stereotypes. Is this any more offensive than joking about someone's wife or mom?

    I agree with this.

If someone can't have a sense of humor about things such as this, he probably will turn into a Jeff Foster type person who thinks everybody is "out to get him." The thought police people should just lighten up. lol
