    Default Stereotypes: Friend or Foe?

Like it or not we are all more or less classifiable into demographics.

    What makes you different?

Whether we are classified by age, gender, race, religion, culture, location, etc its the little things that make us who we are. For this Thread I want to highlight YOUR qualities that make you stand out from the crowd, buck the norm. Whether you are a Red-Blooded American Male who doesn't care for a good steak (Like Myself) or a gal who loves the pacers (which you obviously are), let us know. Other examples come to mind like Canadians who like Bush or anything involving France. Though the main goal is to learn little facts about one another, feel free to vent or rant about said stereotypes if they have held you back or gotten you in trouble.

    Ground Rules are:
    1. Your proposed Topic must apply directly to you. Don't include stories about Friends, Family or Coworkers.

    2. Once you bring a Topic to the table it is fair game for all to comment on, question, and relate too.

    3. Be respectful.

Obviously this has potential to go downhill but I think we can handle it and keep the thread upbeat and informative.

I'm in my 20's and I rarely drink. And I don't like beer.

No, let me fix that. I'm in my 20's and I'm a Pacers fan and I rarely drink. And I still don't like beer.

    I'm a fundamentalist Christian.

I oppose the death penalty as well as abortion, I dislike the Republican party as much as the Democrat one, and I favor amnesty for Mexican immigrants. I have lots of muslim friends.

I'm from Southern Indiana and I've dated outside of my race on multiple occasions.

I once voted for George W. Bush and well, I've inhaled. Multiple times.

My favorite part of love-making is when it is done, just laying there with the other person.

This is stereotypically the part where I question your sexuality.

Sounds nice. Guess I'm not a guy.

Great responses! I had no idea that I'd get such honest and interesting posts so soon.

I too am a young guy that does not drink, smoke or use other substances. I don't understand how "Kids" these days live in their drunken college stupor. Thats another one of my "Personal Decisions" I suppose that can put me at odds with most folks my age...

Although based on this thread I would say we are in the Majority... At PD at least.

    I also don't smoke/drink/use substances, for what it's worth.

OK to those who do not smoke/drink/use substances - do you actually go out to clubs/etc or its just not your lifestyle?

cause I'm always out at the clubs and parties over the weekends and it feels like I'm the only guy in the place who is not smoking or drinking...

Am I allowed one that's not about me?

Women who work at the Eiteljorge Museum are more prone to not wear makeup.

I'm not saying they were ugly. Just kind of a natural thing going on.

    Just an observation.

I didn't have makeup on either so I guess it is about me.

I don't go out to bars/clubs. The Problem with that is that I'm trying to meet new people I would actually like. I sound old when I say it but bars and clubs are just too smokey, too loud, and are filled with people I don't like... I've been to a few before to play pool or whatnot but afterwards my car and clothes have to be fumigated.

To me there are so many more things you could do OTHER than go to Bar/Clubs but not everyone is so open minded.

I'm 37 years old, turning 38 next month.

I have drank, tried smoking, never done any drugs. Drinking puts me to sleep plus I think its a waste of money, so I never enjoyed it. Was fun watching my drunk buddies in college at times though.

Smoking just made me cough. My dad smoked and my brother and sister each did it, but i never took to it.

really odd that there are so many here who don't drink, etc. especially considering most of us are from farm country where there is, literally, nothing better to do.

turned 24 last tuesday, never have consumed alcohol, drugs, or smoke beyond the second-hand variety -- all of which is very bizarre for someone in comedy.

actually wanna know a really great comedian that doesn't drink?

    ...yeah, nobody.

and to answer mo's question: i don't go to clubs outside of the ones i perform in.

i go to bars with friends a few times a month but I rarely will drink while there. The main reason is money, if I was loaded with cash i would probably be loaded with alcohol too. Also I work nights so to me it is like waking up and going to a bar so if I get drunk at a bar it is like being drunk in the mid morning to afternoon.

As far as weed goes I have tried it many times and worse. I dont do any drugs now on a constant basis. I would and will smoke weed again but it is a social and relaxing thing to me.

I'm a 19 year old college dropout. I do smoke. I used to drink, which explains a lot. I listen to indie music, I am a Pacer/Hoosier/Colt fan, and I love my girlfriend.

The only stereotype I really have to deal with is being "lazy" because I dropped out of college. It just wasn't an environment that lent itself to my success, and I was/am too immature with that sort of self-reliance. I just wasn't motivated and I think once I find what I love to do, there won't be a problem with laziness.

I've taken LSD, mushrooms, or peyote more times than most of the membership here have had birthdays. I've made my own tie-dye. I was at the Moratorium march against the Vietnam war in DC. I smoke tobacco. I love beer. I haven't had a haircut in more than seven years. I've read and enjoyed Bakunin and Max Sterner.

I am a 20-year Army veteran. I am putting 2 kids thru college...3 as of next year. My wife and I will mark our 26th anniversary this year. I teach IT networking classes to the military (ours). They think I'm great. I've held a top secret security clearance. I am a Christian.

I'm 57. I think the Shins are mighty fine. I like baroque and renaissance music. I like Buckethead. Crank that up.

I love basketball. I cannot walk and dribble at the same time.

Stereotypes? We don't need no stinkin' stereotypes.
