    Default Bird press conference

    http://blogs.indystar.com/pacersinsider/

Did you really think the Pacers would pull off a trade before the deadline?
The deadline reminded me of last summer. The Pacers said they were going to improve their roster through trades only to show up at training camp with the same core group of players.
Now you guys get to watch the Pacers attempt to remain in playoff contention with their current roster.
They'll have to continue to try to get by without Jermaine O'Neal and Jamaal Tinsley because it's still a mystery on when the two of them will return to the lineup.
Here's my prediction how the final 28 games will play out for the Pacers.
They'll compete for a playoff spot until the final week or so of the season. They'll miss the playoffs for the second straight year and end up not getting a very high pick.
Are you surprised that Bird and his crew couldn't work out a deal or have you already
given up hope that the Pacers president can't fix things?
Stay tuned, Bird is scheduled to address the media at 10 a.m. on Friday.

This is Mike Wells blog. I haven't been able to find any info on this. Did it happen? Anybody catch it or have a link to a video?

I am guessing that it's set to go ahead at 10am EST.....that's more then 1 hour ago....anyone heard anything yet?

I'm guessing it's the standard "we tried to make moves but decided in the end that it was best to stick with what we had and to simply make the playoffs". Essentially the same speech from last season.

Bird: "Uhhh....Hey guys.....ummmm....we didnt make a trade.....ok thanks see you all later.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

That is some pretty harsh writing for a beat writer to put out there. I know it's a blog but somebody that won't like it is bound to hear about it.

Just caught a blurb on WRTV. He was calling out the players saying that there is no leader in the locker room. They also said that the P's were "actively" looking to make a trade but nothing came up that would make the team better.

After that, I'm sure it was all Charlie-Brown's-teacher.

Here's a quick blurb from IndyStar.

    http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...RTS04/80222034

He held a press conference to say that he didn't think we have a team leader?

I'm not saying what he says isn't true.....I'm just saying that he didn't have to hold a press conference to essentially point out that we don't have a leader. To me....this is a indirect shot at JONeal...our supposed Franchise player and leader on the team. Good job calling out JONeal in front of the press.

Calling a press conference to announce that JO is untradable isn't exactly the morale booster we wanted Larry. Thanks for trying though. Here's to holding on to our draft pick.

The irony, I've posted like 5 times how the last 2 weeks I thought Granger was stepping up into this role of leader and Bird calls them out, just the opposite, and in the press no less. I guess my perceptions are just way off. I wonder if Bird and Morway really work close together, man I hope so.

OK, this **** was uncalled for.

I've been neutral on the Walsh/Bird critique for years now.

Bird has to go immediately. I don't care who takes over.

Its almost like he thought it was a season ending press conference.

Bird, they still have games left and there is absolutely nothing good to come out of him throwing them under the bus, in the press, at this point.

Sometimes you wonder if a GM at this point just says what the hell, if they're going to take me down, I'm going to have some fun on my way out.

In all fairness, I am guessing that there is way more to the Press Conference then what was said in the Blurb on IndyStar.....but I agree that this was uncalled for.

Is it to hard to "elegantly" say that "we saw that there were changes that we wanted to make and tried to make some trades over the last 2 months but didn't find any trade that made sense cuz they undervalued our players while potentially hurting the long term viability of this team"?

I didn't need to have Bird pretty much call out JONeal to say that he's not the "Man" in the Press. This is precisely the type of comments that can push JONeal to pull out his yearly "I should be traded" speech to even further lower his trade value for us.

That's the problem with this....everyone is going to forget the entire speech EXCEPT for the part where Bird said that we had no leader on the team.

    Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb.
