Default Chad Ford LIVE CHAT...1pm est

Justin (PROVO): Jarron Collins, Jason Hart, and Mo Almond for Jeff Foster... what do you think? I hear Mr. Bird is very high on Almond, and the Jazz could use a defensive big man to back up Okur.

Chad Ford: (1:32 PM ET ) I think Jeff Foster has much more value than that. He ranks as one of the top 5 best offensive rebounders in the game, is more athletic than people think, and he's got size. I think there will be a lot of teams trying to snag him from Indiana. He's the perfect type of sixth man for a team with championship aspirations and he has a very reasonable contract.

I still say that we need to move Jeff while his value is as high as it is.

    I Agree.

We have seen that if you hold on to players to long, well then you end up stuck with them.

Mo Almond, a 1st, and expirings is an appropriate kind of package we should look for from the Jazz if we actually are talking to them.

My question got answered...basically what we already know

Brock (Anderson, IN): The Pacers have been shopping JO and heard some rumblings about JT. Any chance of either or both can be moved by Thursday. Dont you think its time the Pacers start with a bit of rebuilding mode?

Chad Ford: (1:42 PM ET ) The problem is that teams are wondering about Jermaine O'Neal's health. Here's the crazy thing, just a year and a half ago, we were talking about JO as a superstar. He's had some injury issues, but he's 29 and doesn't have a ton of miles on his legs. Why wouldn't a team make a run at him if they could, like Phoenix did with Shaq, get their doctors to take a look? I think he has a lot left in the tank and should be commanding a bigger price tag. That's why Indiana won't give him away ... they know he's more valuable than the current offering price. Tinsley? He's been mentioned on the block for a while ... he's great one night, injured the next. I'm not sure what his value is. As for rebuilding? I think Indiana would do it, but they can't just give away JO. It has to be a deal that gives them back young players, draft picks or a guy like Shawn Marion.

Thanks BamBam.....if you read any other interesting rumors ( even if it isn't related to Indy )....please post them.

During this time of the year.......listening to rumors that other teams are involved in is as interesting as hearing rumors about the Pacers.

Reading Ford's chat I noticed that he mentioned Biedrins' name if the Warriors make a deal. That JO to the Warriors deal would look a lot better if Biedrins was part of the return package. I'd love to get Al back for the 3rd time if Biedrins became our center (I know he's a FA soon, but I can dream can't I?)

Given previous (yet unfounded and purely speculative) talk about the Spurs probably wanting a guy like Jeff, here's this one. I'd like to get Splitter.

Eric (SoCal): What pieces would the Spurs have to move in order to upgrade? Do you think Artest would help this team?

Chad Ford: (1:56 PM ET ) They have a lot of expiring contracts (about $15 million worth) and they have the draft rights to Tiago Splitter ... who's having a very good season in Spain. They also have Ian Mahinmi ... who is having a good run in the D League right now. So ... they have assets. It's about finding the right player and keeping this team from incurring a huge luxury tax bill.

I'd take the Jazz deal for Jeff . Mo Almond is a player Bird wanted at draft time and has scored 53 and 55 points in NBDL games , he can flat out score .

I have little desire to trade Foster when the main piece is someone who is freaking lighting it up in the D-League among perilous competition such as Keith Closs.
    Already stoked for 2013-2014.

I'm basing it on the fact Bird tried hard to trade into the 1st round to draft Almond a 6'6 sg .

Jarron Collins, Jason Hart, and Mo Almond for Jeff Foster...
I'd make that trade if they include Millsap or their first round draft pick. Of course, they'd prob want Owens to replace Hart, which should be no problem.

Otherwise I'd look to SA who might be willing to give up a better package from these assets: Barry, Splitter, draft pick, Elson

Maybe Foster and Harrison for Barry, Elson and Splitter - or replace Splitter with their 08 first

They're not trading Millsap. He's ten years younger, does most everything Jeff does and makes about $5 a year.

    THANK YOU!

It seems like everyone just ignored the part where Chad Ford said that Foster has way more value than that. IMO, there is absolutely no good reason to trade Foster.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

Yeah, it's hard to beat five bucks a season for a player of his caliber.

You trade him because he gets you value that you need later, like a young prospect and a pick.

Holding on to him does what exactly? When the team is actually good enough where you need his play, he'll too old to play the style you held on to him to play.

Rebuilding means you get rid of your current assests to obtain future ones.

You're prolly right that they wouldn't include him in a deal for Foster, but if he's better than Jeff in all of those ways then why are they pursuing Foster?

Because of all the fouls you need when guarding Shaq surrounded by a Phoenix team.

Sorry to change the topic, but I've heard repeatedly one of the reasons Phoenix got Shaq was to have a low-post option down the stretch when the game slows.

But Shaq's never really been a crunch time player; you can just foul him. How is this gonna work?

I think it was pretty clear when the trade happened and is still clear even now, that its not going to.

Well, he's not better than Jeff. But he has a higher ceiling.

Either way, they need big men who can defend. As many as possible. Okur is horrendous, Boozer aint hardly any better, Jarron Collins is washed up and AK-47 aint strong enough to guard the Gasol/Bynums, Yaos, Timmys and Diesels of the world.

Sure, Millsap plays okay D, but Foster is better and much more experienced/savvy. And knowing Sloan, he needs some hard-nosed defenders to guard people. Especially if they're gonna still try to move AK this summer, seeing as he's their only quality front-court defender on their entire roster.
