Katie Douglas is coming home.

The Indiana Fever today will announce that Douglas, an All-Star guard and Indianapolis native, has been acquired from the Connecticut Sun in exchange for forward Tamika Whitmore and the Fever's first-round draft pick.
The trade was reported Monday night on TheDay.com, a Web site in Connecticut, citing WNBA sources. The report was confirmed by a source in the Fever organization.
The transaction is one of the most consequential in Fever history, perhaps exceeded only by the selection of Tamika Catchings in the 2002 WNBA draft.
Douglas, 28, averaged 17.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists last season and was a second-team All-WNBA guard. She was a first-team pick in 2006.
Douglas, a graduate of Purdue and Perry Meridian High School, had sought a trade to Indiana so she could be closer to family.
Whitmore, 30, a nine-year veteran, averaged 10.9 points for the Fever last season.
