    Default Memphis Firesale?

    http://chrisvernon.blogspot.com/

According to the CA and cbssports.com, the Grizzlies and the Nets are talking about a deal that would send Stromile Swift to the Nets for Jason Collins. I believe this to be completely true. I don't know if the deal will take place for sure, but I would think there is a really good chance. I don't even give a crap about that deal to be honest.

What I do care about is the deal that also may come in the next few days. I don't think that we are going to be as happy as we once thought we would be about a Pau deal. I have pontificated on the fact that a fire sale could be coming so that Heisley can save money and position the team to sell it. I think he wants to be able to sell to someone and be able to pitch that they will takeover a product with quite a bit of flexibility that they can do whatever they want with. Unfortunately I think that Wallace was hired to carry out this plan. I hope I am wrong.

There is nothing that Heisley has done in the past 2 years to indicate that he is doing anything but cutting back on all costs. Saving money is what this franchise is about now.

With that being said, look for Pau to be part of a deal that brings back a big expiring contract. If what I think may go down, goes down, people are going to be really pissed. Have you ever considered what Kwame Brown would look like in a Grizzlies uni? I am just asking.

    Nets close to Collins deal

MIAMI The Nets are close to making a deal involving a Jason, but it's not Kidd.

They are set to acquire athletic 6-foot-10 forward Stromile Swift from the Memphis Grizzlies for Jason Collins, league sources said. The deal was being worked on Thursday night and could be finalized today or sometime over the weekend.

Swift is averaging 6.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 35 games for the Grizzlies, who suspended the eighth-year big man for one game earlier this week for conduct detrimental to the team.

The Nets have pursued Swift in the past, and seem to be on the verge of getting him now in part because he has fallen out of favor in Memphis. He is long, a good shot blocker, runs the floor and would give the Nets another athlete.

The offensively-challenged Collins, who helped the Nets reach two NBA finals and has anchored their defense in recent years, has been a Net since 2001. He was their starting center until earlier this season when coach Lawrence Frank decided to go with second-year big man Josh Boone.

Acquired along with Richard Jefferson and Brandon Armstrong in a 2001 draft night deal with Houston for Eddie Griffin, Collins is averaging 1.3 points and 2.1 rebounds.

It's obvious the Nets are going young now. It's also obvious that they're going to want to get rid of Vince, but likely won't want JO in return.

Pau in LA makes the Lakers legit contenders when Bynum gets back.

I don't believe Gasol could go that cheap, but the man doing the reporting is very reputable according to Grizzlies fans.

If Gasol is available for cheap, Chicago should be working the phones.

Where signing a guy to a $61.8 million contract and wanting him off your team within six months happens.

    Where amazing happens.

Lakers are legit contenders right now. Pau is one of the most underrated guys in the league. Lakers would be sick.

I guess that answers my question from the other thread. The Grizzlies are just dumping salary and not giving much of a damn about the cost in talent.
