Default Rot in hell, Clogged right ear..

I woke up a few mornings ago with a slightly clogged ear..I figured that there may have been a little wax buildup so I got out some sodium peroxide and poured some drops in my ear. That made things 3x worse so I decided that maybe I should see just how much wax I have in my ear with a Q-Tip. Another horrible idea on my part. That made things even worse..so for the past 2 days I haven't been able to hear out of my right ear at all. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and I really cannot wait to get this dealt with. Nothing has ever annoyed me more.

I'm not going to mess with it anymore, but for future references..does anyone have any good advice on getting rid of ear wax/water in a clogged up ear? I've heard that almost any type of Oil really helps getting it out..

It's probably some sort of ear infection. I remember around April last year my throat got really sore and then my ear became clogged up really bad and it hurt like hell.

Does you ear throb? I think what happened with me I can kind of remember going home to lay down and then my ear popped a little, I fell asleep and woke up to a throbbing right ear and clogged right ear on top of it.

It really sucked. I remember my ear being muffled for a while even after seeing a doctor and having medicine in me which made me start to ponder if my ear would ever have normal hearing out of it. Thankfully it got better.

I don't know any special ways of unclogging it, either but I doubt it's a large build up of wax, it is sadly probably an infection, and the quicker you see a doctor and get some antibiotics the better off you will be.

It has recently begun to throb..glad I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow because I think it probably is an infection as well. I've cleaned my ears out before with Peroxide and it's always worked up until now. I did recently spend the night at some random house after a party and the floor was pretty nasty..so I'd imagine that may be the cause of it. I haven't really felt sick at all and it hasn't been painful though so I am hoping that maybe there is just a water buildup deep in my ear.

ouch - good luck with that.

My best friend has gone through this with the throbbing.

Nowadays he just has this low buzzing sound on his ear and can no longer tolerate loud music.

So far no medicine has been able to help him out....

Yeah, probably what I had. I remember the pain wasn't bad at first, then it just got bad. If it is throbbing now, take some advil or something so you don't have to deal with the pain. At least advil from what I remember helped me.

The last major sickness I had was Nasal Cellulitus and it's like an inflamed nose and my nose hurt like hell really bad.

Advil would not help it and I got prescribed some other big pain reliever they give you after surgery and stuff I forget what it was called but it hardly helped. I had to get a shot and get some antibiotics as well. Thankfully it helped. My nose ended up draining out the infection and it's still a little red to this day, after months ago of actually having it.

But I saw a specialist because it was still red and they said it's just because the tissue was so badly bruised up and the redness will go away soon after a few months. (Obviously this isn't what you have but I'm just trying to make you feel better about having what you got, it doesn't seem as bad as my nose infection.)

Glad to hear you're going to the doctor tomorrow.

If it turns out to be a big ball of wax, I think I'm gonna take a picture of it with my cell and make it my facebook profile pic for a month or so..lol, I'll upload it here to if anyone wants to see it..assuming it is wax.

Ok, based on my experience with ear maladies. You have a pretty bad ear infection. Now its not a huge deal and a couple days of anti biotics will knock it right out.
I used to always end up getting ear infections whenever I would get a cold. My doctor eventually told me it was probably because the drainage from my sinuses drains into your ear and can cause ear infections if it builds up.
Take Mucinex whenever you feel pressure building up in your ear or when you have sinus drainage. It will keep your sinuses clear and prevent mucus from draining into your ear canal.
Also make sure you clean your ears everyday. It sounds simple, but it really does work wonders. Especially after you get out of the shower. Water in your ear will just compound the problem.

EDIT: I just read you said you don't feel sick. Neither do I a lot of the time until my ear just goes crazy and I wake up with some pain.

Peroxide and Q-Tips have made mine worse as well, and it also drives me bonkers when I get a clogged ear. I highly recommend filling a ball syringe with warm water and flushing your ear out that way. Always works for me, though sometimes it takes a few flush attempts to get it all. This, of course, is assuming it's wax and not an infection. Be sure to flush hard to allow water to get behind the wax and push it out.

Just went to the doctor and it turned out to be a giant ball of wax. She said that it wouldn't hurt when she sprayed it out, but good god it hurt like ****. When it finally came out, my ear was bleeding a bit because the wax somehow managed to cut my ear as it was coming out. I would have been mad because I could have cleaned it out at home, but it turned out it was also infected as well..so it was wax+minor infection.

And for future references, use rubbing alcohol and lukewarm water+a syringe if you need to clean out your ear. Make sure you do powerful blasts with it to get it out. I was unable to get a picture because the lady who cleaned it out took the bowl away after I saw it once. I asked her if I could take a picture and she just looked at me weird.

    Shoulda listened to me.

I also learned the hard way, when a doctor used some sort of water gun to flush mine out. The syringe gets the job done every time.

    How big was it? (TWSS)

Anyway, my mom swears by those ear candles. I told her it was fake and it wouldn't work, and then she used one on me. I was amazed, to say the least. I've taken them seriously since then.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

    Yup.

Ear candles are the way to go. They are funnel cones of wax and paper and you stick the little end in your ear and then light the other end on fire!!!!

As long as you don't burn your head off, you will be STYLIN'

It's not too hard to do, I was just being a punk about it...just make sure you have an exit strategy for the flaming cone once it gets down to a few inches long...

The fire makes some sort of suction and it sucks the ear wax right the heck out.

I clean my ears with Q-tips every day after I shower, and that has been the best preventive treatment I could do. Haven't had any ear problems in years...

Yeah, if you are getting that big of a buildup of wax you probably need to start using Q-Tips more consistently after you shower.

It's funny because I haven't used Q-Tips in years..but I use them one time when I get a little water caught in my ear, and that's what caused this whole dilemma. I think I pushed the Q-Tip really far back and it pushed any and all wax that I had in my ear straight into the back.

And Shade, I did try with a syringe quite a few times to no avail. I would have kept going but it was very painful and I didn't want to risk damaging my ear drums due to an infection or something worse. When she finally got the big chunk out, my ear started bleeding because the wax coming out somehow managed to cut the inside of my ear..it was quite disgusting. It was about the size of maybe half a dime. I asked her what the biggest ball of wax she had ever gotten out of someones ear before, and she told me that one time, a guy had a wax ball the size of 1.5 quarters come out. That's freaking disgusting.

I do that religiously and still get build-up from time to time. I think I inadvertantly push some wax in with the Q-Tip sometimes.

There are actually OTC meds that you can put in the ear to soften the wax and make it easier to flush out...

Just look for them at the drug store.

Where do you get these candles from? I have seen them done on TV and I wanted to try.

My ears haven't been the same since I took a road trip through the Alberta/BC mountain in 2006. I always have to pop them and my hearing has lessened since then. I use a Q-tip maybe once a week, only cause I forget/am too lazy to do anything else. I just want a remedy that will get me to a start point and then I will q-tip it on a daily basis.

I get mine from a local health food store...some place that has those weird herbs and vitamins and has some freakish old lady working who is strangely nice all the time. Always creeps me out and makes me think she has her next victim tied up just behind that faded blue curtain leading to the back room....I get in and get OUT.

You are correct UB... Q Tips are NOT supposed to go in the ear canal. They are only for the outer parts of your ears. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the word is Q Tips in the ear canal actually COMPACT the wax and make it worse.

Ear wax is SUPPOSED to be in there.... (not to excess of course and certainly not compacted).
