Default So I'm getting married... LA - Vegas honeymoon

I proposed to my lovely partner back in December. We have set our wedding date for August 30 this year. We have been busy sorting out this and that for the wedding and it's looking like its going to be fantastic.

We look like we hare going to head over to LA and Vegas for our honeymoon (We live in Perth, Australia). I'm asking for any advice from people who live ther or have been there as to what the great things are to do and see in those cities.

Any advice or comments will be greatly appreciated.

My advice is to stay in Australia and honeymoon in Australia but I guess that is something non-Aussies would want to do.

Check out Vegas websites and it all depends on the timing of when you would be there for what is going on. And Congrats by the way oh and where is my invitation? In the mail I hope

    Congrats!

You can just be in Vegas and stumble onto plenty to do. As the others said, the specific time/date will have some options you might want to look into.

Not sure about LA.. Maybe a guy named LA will wander in here and give you some good options. I guess you're outta luck in catching an NBA basketball game in person unless you want to reschedule the wedding!

    Congratulations!

First of all, you'll need to rent a car for LA. There's no other way to do it.

This might sound cheesy, but I need to hear more about you before I can give advice. Do you like rock and roll or jazz? Fine dining or pub grub? Outdoor activities or indoors?

Tell me what you like and I will recommend ...

LA, the city itself, isn't a great place to visit. I suppose you could go see the Hollywood area but it is a bit dirty. Beyond seeing it to say you have seen it there isn't much value. But I may be taking it for granted.

There are also Disneyland and other theme parks.

What I would do though is either spend time at the Orange County beaches like Laguna or go north to Santa Barbara. Both are nice day trips and about 90 minutes away. A little more North and you are in wine country which is a great area as well.

"'Only.'" Woevre was amused. "Someday you'll explain to me how that's possible. Seeing that, on the face of it, all mathematics leads, doesn't it, sooner or later, to some kind of human suffering."

    Congratulations on your engagement.

I've lived in both places and live in L.A now. Vegas is amazing, you don't really need suggestions on what to do. Once you are on the strip (Las Vegas BLVD), it's pretty self explanatory. Every major casino has shows, malls, buffets and fine dining. Everything in Vegas is in the casinos food, theaters, shows, spas, suites.. everything.. They are all resorts, as well as casinos. Some will surprise you, by what type of things the casinos have, MGM literally has a live Lion in the casino (just as an example). You can spend hours just walking around looking at everything.
L.A, it really depends on what you like. Venice Beach is a must see, a lot of side shows and very interesting people. Hollywood of course, grab a worlds famous Pink's hot dog. A lot of people don't know this but many of the shows are free. Jay Leno, Price is right, Carson Daly all free; you just print the tickets online or go to CBS studios and they have booth where you can pick them up. I love going to The Improv on Melrose it's a stand up comedy club. If you want to see a celebrity eat at The Ivy on Robertson. It's the hottest celeb hang out in L.A. The Ivy is expense though, but you are honeymooning I'm sure you'll be splurging. Universal studios is a cool place to go, they have "the city walk" which is a nice outside mall as well as the theme park it's self. Even with adults Universal is interesting, especially if you are into the movie thing. There is so much to do, if you give me an idea what you like I'll give you a heads up. You have to rent a car in L.A. Ever heard that song "Nobody Walks in L.A" it is true. lol

thanks for the advice fellas... i'll tell you a bit about myself and my partner.. I am into hard rock & metal music but also got a soft spot for jazz. i play hard rock in a band so i would like to check something like that out. (whisky a go go??)

will want to check out sunset strip too

We like eating out and about, things like cosy little local restuants that put on a good spread.

I've dabbled in film making and have had some small roles (TV adverts and movies) so the movie stuff is interesting to us both.

We have already planned on renting a car for LA and driving to Vegas for that leg of the trip (ala Fear & Loathing).

Vegas we are more intrigued on roaming the strip finding things to do.

Im shattered I wont be there through NBA season.

One HUGE suggestion I have for you for Vegas.

Bring confortable shoes. You will do a TON of walking in vegas and 99% is on concrete. Your legs and feet will hurt. And nothing is close in vegas. It looks close but in reality, you will walk miles to get there.

I don't want to ruin your marriage before it even gets a chance to get started, but you might keep your eyes open for that summer league that runs every year in Vegas (Pepsi Pro Summer League? Is that it?). With a little careful planning, you might just "happen" to be in Vegas the week it's running.
