Default Jacksonville at New England AFC Divisional 1/12/08

(11-5) In a nail-biter against the Steelers last week, the Jaguars look for confidence from that win to knock off the 16-0 Patriots.

(16-0) New England will have to beat a very tough running game from Jacksonville if they want to go 17-0 and move on in the playoffs.

Lord Helmet, I've got to hand it to ya, you have a NFL thread going come hell or high water.

I didn't think that I would ever be saying this but, Go Jaguars!! I haven't seen a forecast for NE this evening, but some wind gust would be real nice. Has anyone heard whether Henderson is going to play tonight?

    from boston.com at 3PM:

    Welcome to Gillette

Mike Reiss, Globe Staff January 12, 2008 03:00 PM

FOXBOROUGH -- Welcome to Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots host the Jaguars tonight in an AFC Divisional playoff round game (8 p.m.).

It is unseasonably warm at this time, 46 degrees, and the temperature is only expected to drop into the upper 30s by kickoff. There is little wind to contend with, so conditions shouldn't be much of a factor in the kicking or passing games.

It was just four years ago that the Patriots were hosting the Titans in an AFC Divisional playoff game at Gillette. The temperature that night -- on Jan. 10, 2004 -- was 4 degrees. There were also winds whipping through at 10 miles per hour that night.

So all in all, the teams couldn't ask for better conditions tonight.

On the playing field, in addition to the Patriots logo at midfield, there is a red, white and blue playoff logo. The rectangular playoff logo is directly under the Patriots logo. It includes the official NFL symbol along with the words "2007 Playoffs".

Jerome Boger's crew has been assigned to work tonight's game.

Yeah, plus there is the hot air from the Patriot fans to warm things up as well.

I think it could be a close one, but I still see New England getting the W.

It'd be nice to see the Jaguars win, just to see another (potential) game in the Dome before it's torn down.

That said, I think the Pats will blow Jacksonville out.

I've thought I was going to root for the Pats, but as the game approaches I'm rooting for the Jags.

I still wouldn't be upset with a New England victory as long as we win tomorrow, because I feel like even if we win the Super Bowl, unless we beat New England to do it it won't be quite as satisfying.

I think this will be a shootout. Neither team's defense has been particularly impressive, but both teams can put up a lot of points in a hurry.

    My prediction:

    NE 38
    Jax 27

Man I hope NE loses. I highly doubt it, but I hope so. I don't care about the rematch, I care about the REPEAT.

Why does everyone assume that we would beat Jax if they beat the Pats?

We beat the Jax twice during the regular season. Once when we were severely injured. 2-0 is pretty good and we are healthier then we have been for a long time. We'll be Jax trust me.

I thought it was pretty clear he got the ball out before he was down.

EDIT: Wow, it was a lot closer then I thought.

Really impressive drive, the Pats D looked like... well the way they've looked all season. This really means nothing, because the Pats have won games all year in spite of their D, not because of it.

We were extremely lucky to beat them the second time. Jax got a slow start and once they got rolling, we couldn't stop them.

But all this may be moot/premature. First, Jax needs to beat NE. Then we need to take care of SD.

Both teams go for it on 4th down on their opening drives. 49-52 final anyone?

Why do teams only rush 3 on 4th down against NE? It gives TB way too much time
