    Default Dick Harter's Defense

I hadn't seen this posted anywhere so I figured I'd put it up.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/nba...?urn=nba,61226

For those of you too lazy to click a link, it's from Kelly Dwyer's "Yahoo Expert" blog and is a YouTube video of various defensive possessions of ours against the Hawks.

Seeing them altogether illustrates our tendency to pack it in, and it shows us moving together around the paint like an amoeba. Seems like these guys are starting to "get it," at least for some possessions.

Mainly, Dwyer was surprised to see that we are even average defensively compared to the rest of the League and credits Harter's system for this. What do yall think?

    Also...the commenters love us.

I like the following comment....I've never thought about it.

Am I the only one who thinks it is funny that Jim O'Brien runs an offense that requires it's players to take 3-point shots whenever they are open in the hopes of outshooting the opponent, but his defense is designed to allow opposing teams to take uncontested 3-pointers?

He essentially says "The best way to win is to shoot lots of 3's, so let's give the other teams lots of 3's."

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

I have a question to all of you that know something about this "controlling the paint and forcing them to beat you from the perimeter" defense.

If we go small-ball.....are we going to be able to still implement this type of defense as effectively?

Do we truly need 2 Big Men to help defend and push the opposing team out beyond the paint?

    Or

Is it more a matter of movement by the player and where he ends up ( regardless of size )?
