Somebody...ANYBODY...Please get this message to coach Jim O'Brien or anyone on the Pacers' coaching staff IMMEDIATELY!!!
Why in the world would you allow this team to continue to take jump shots with the score so close, their opponent in foul trouble and the game clock at or near 3-minutes? I just don't understand how the coaching staff could allow the players to continue to self-implode in such a way. Respectfully request you implement the following 3-Minute Rule in end-game situations:
"If the game clock is at or near 3-minutes and you're within 10 points (+/-), DO NOT SETTLE FOR JUMP SHOTS! EVERY POSSESSION from this point on should be a drive to the basket!!!"
The only exception should be if the shot clock is running down and you are forced to take a shot.
In the closing minutes of the fourth quarter in tonight's game against the Phoenix Suns (1/9/08), the Pacers settled for jump shot after jump shot after jump shot and missed them all!!! The Suns were one foul away from being in the penalty, and yet the Pacers did NOT capitalize on this one advantage!!! I'm so tired of watching this team blow games they should have won because they failed to play smarter, not harder! You put unnecessary pressure on yourselves because you played right into the hands of your opponent and in doing so gave them the advantage. The Suns did exactly what the Pacers should have done - ATTACK THE BASKET knowing the Pacers were in deep foul trouble.
Now, while Jamaal Tinsley did attempt to post-up against the Suns in overtime, it was too much! He took it upon himself and took each and every shot in overtime. Why didn't he get his teammates involved? Shawne Williams, Danny Granger and Mike Dunleavy were performing well. As much as Jamaal was a benefit to the team for most of regulation play, he was a complete liability in overtime because he tried much too hard to put the team on his shoulders and be the hero. Hindsight is 20/20, but the smartest thing he could have done was get back to what got the team the lead and got his teammates involved - ATTACK THE BASKET and move the baseket ball around. Too much isolation play along with too many jump shots at the end of regulation play cost you the game.
I'm so disappointed with this team tonight, moreso than I've been all season because this game was yours and you blew it because you played harder, not smarter!!!
Not so Sincerely,
"A very angry Pacers fan!!"
