Default Patriots v Giants to be on NBC, CBS, and NFL Network

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7604346

The New England Patriots' shot at history Saturday night will be available for every household in the country with a television after months of wrangling.

The game against the New York Giants, in which the Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season, was originally scheduled to be shown only on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs.

But the league announced Wednesday that the NFL Network feed will be simulcast on NBC and CBS. It's a major concession by league officials, who repeatedly said they would not show the game anywhere but the NFL Network. The NFL had faced mounting pressure from politicians in recent weeks to make the game available to more viewers.

This will be the first three-network simulcast in NFL history and the first simulcast of any kind of an NFL game since the first Super Bowl in 1967, when CBS and NBC both televised the first meeting of the champions of the newly merged National Football League and American Football League.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," commissioner Roger Goodell said. "What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever."

Good for the New England fans that were going to get screwed out of seeing this. I only wish they'd stop the only on NFL Network bull**** or at least make the NFL Network easier to acquire.

That said I don't think it's going to be a that good of a game, but the reason it's on national TV is not because of that, it's because of potential history.

Congratulations to those of you who do not have NFL Network. You get to hear the soothing, intelligent commentary from Bryant Gumbel. I expect the Giants to sit a lot of their injured players (Plaxico, Brandon Jacobs) effectively giving them no chance to win this game meaning the Patriots should get their final win with relative ease.

    Good job Goodell!

This game needs to be seen, it was bad enough having the Packers vs. Cowboys game on only NFL Network. We shouldn't have to buy DirectTV just to see the game. Anyway, if the Giants don't rest their starters alot of you will be surprised at how good the game might be. The DE's of the giants should get to Brady and make it very interesting.

I'm just glad I'll be at the Pacers game.

It is interesting that it will be on 3 outlets. And why isn't it on ESPN and Fox also.

Fox and CBS would make more sense. I don't know why both stations need it, they should flip a coin.

I believe CBS gets the game due to them losing it origionally to the NFL network. Since the Pats are visiting it would have been on CBS. Maybe NBC has some clause in their contract concerning the game. ESPN can't carry it due to bowl game broadcasts.

Here is the reason CBS and NBC and not Fox or ESPN

CBS and NBC will carry the NFL Network feed with Bryant Gumbel and Cris Collinsworth announcing. For games on broadcast TV, CBS is the rights-holder for interconference games hosted by NFC teams and NBC is the rights-holder for prime-time games.
