JO gets a pass on this game from me. He was clearly outmatched by the much much more powerful howard.
Not from me. Jermaine baffles me... I like the guy but he drives me crazy. I posted it in the game thread (I'll go find it and re-post it here) but you can tell as soon as he gets the ball whether he's going to make it or not. I did it all night and got everything right but one or two. It baffles me why he takes shots that he's not going to make. He was forcing it tonight, and he didn't need to.

What I really like tonight was marquis and tinsley playing together. Tinsely would post up very very high and it looked like daniels would get the backdoor screen and cut right under the basket and get the pass. That was a very very effective play late in the game and would like to see it ran alot more.
Definitely agree. Quis is tons better next to Tinsley instead of only playing when Jamaal needs a breather.

I think JOB strategy of tiring the other team out and stopping points in the paint in favor of outside shots is starting to work. The difference in the second half was that we started to close out and rotate better. The Magic settled for jump shots and forgot Howard a bit. When they didn't forget him, we fouled and didn't let him dunk. Good game plan by JOB.

Also, Foster basically figured Lewis out. I swear, Jeff needs to be on an all-defensive team. The way he plays. How many teams in the NBA have a better defensive front court than our Granger-JO-Foster?

I think the biggest problem that became evident as the fourth quarter wound down was that with all the up tempo offense the Pacers have been working on this season, they haven't really found their groove when they need to slow it down and grind out the W. It ends up being the usual dump it to JO and watch him pound it routine.
This is where I think efficient scorers like Marquis, Ike ( when he returns ), Foster ( to a lesser degree ) and Harrison ( all players that that take high-percentage shots ) should come in.

Unless JONeal continually drives to the hoop to draw fouls or take shots right next to the basket, doesn't settle for his fade-away jumpshots or the lineup on the floor is hitting every shot.....then I would prefer that we have these players like these in the Frontcourt lineup to simply maintain the lead and score on most possesions.

I didn't get to see the game (was at work), but I'm starting to get to where I feel this team can beat almost anyone on any given night. And they're really starting to get consistent, especially with their effort.

THIS is the kind of team I've been wanting. I'm quite pleased right now. We still have a ways to go, but things are looking up.

    .
I tuned in to see the last couple of minutes (because that is when I got home, not because I was ignoring the game) and I saw JO take a horrific shot... and a long jumper on the next possession. We're in crunch time and he's worthless on the offensive end of the court. Why even go to an iso play for JO in crunch time? Why can't we just run our offense... or at the least why does JO have to make up his mind that he is shooting no matter what?

We should never just drop it in to JO in crunch time. Never. Whether the coach is calling that or whether JO is simply not making a good decision with ball when he should've kicked it back out and repositioned doesn't matter. ...It's a bad play.

If the team needs JO to "go to work" on the offensive end of the court at crunch time it should be to 'go to work' on the boards after someone else has shot or for JO to set a solid screen for someone.

Also if Tins keeps this up he deserves an all-star spot over Kidd. Period.

JO did look terrible this evening. I wonder if its his health or stamina...because he played well last game. He just didn't look right, especially in the second half.

He will need to continue at about this level of play, but I'm starting to become a believer. He is playing great basketball right now. Clearly the best of his career.

If you go to ESPN dot com front page, you can watch JTs between the legs highlight as the featured highlight of the night...... in the NBA. Nice of them to recognize that nifty little move.........sweet. You can even spot Turkglo picking up his jock after the play.

I'm gonna chalk it up to helping out on defend and score on Howard......both of which I consider daunting tasks.

However, this doesn't completely excuse him from taking bad shots. When we play teams like the Magic and they have a huge Big Man defending the paint....thus forcing JONeal to settle for his jumpshot....this is one of those times where I would prefer that JONeal simply defer on the offensive end to the rest of the team.

    Very impressive victory tonight.

Granger got hot - very hot, Tinsley was simply outstanding in the second half, and the pacers turned up their defense in the second half. The Pacers have shown the ability to play with extreme effort and they seem to have a desire to win that is very strong.

Dunleavy even though it probably doesn't show in the box score was huge in the 3rd quarter and IMO started the good run with his great passing and hustle.

I've been hesitant to really say this, because I think this pacers team has a certain ceiling they can reach, but won't be able to go to a higher level - simply because of talent (and injury) - but what I want to say is this team is coming together and has been a joy to watch ever since the horrible Lakers game. I have a certain confidence that the pacers will win the game.

Just for tonight, I don't know if any PG not named Steve Nash could have played a better 2nd half than Tinsley. He's playing great ball right now.

No, that's too far. Jermaine's been plenty clutch for us in the past. I'd have no problem going to him with the game on the line, but he needs to either attack immediately or pass the ball. And he should never again shoot from the elbow... he almost never hits that shot.

As much as I have been down on Tinsley in the past, I am just as proud of him right now. I am just floored with his play, he is pretty much the catalyst for this team right now. Just amazing, wow and WTF!

I'm not shocked by Tinsley because he's done it before but he's so damn consistent this year.

Pacers own stan van gundy, no wonder he wanted to come be our coach. He can't beat us with Shaq and Wade, he can't beat us with Rashard Lewis and Dwight Howard...the man is going to have nightmares about Jamaal Tinsley for the rest of this season.

Great road win. I just wanted to add one thing. I think we should give Marquis a little more time before we give up on him as a back up pg. He needs to be on the floor. He had 7 assists 4 rebs and only 2 turnovers tonight. He's also probably our best on ball defender against those smaller quick gaurds that have always given us trouble. He and JT should play together as others have said, but IMO for 13 min. per game he can play the point.

For those of you saying JO looked off tonight...

I vaguely remember at some point in the first half the announcers mentioning that he had knocked knees with somebody... maybe he was feeling a little iffy for the rest of the game. Not to mention the match up with Howard, although I think he played him pretty strong tbh.

Ha! Hadn't thought of that. The rest of his life, more like. I still remember that game after the brawl where we went in with Tinsley, Freddy, and Hulk and beat up on SVG and Wade. What a game.
