Indy will bid on 2012 Super Bowl
    By Rob Schneider

Indianapolis will try once more to lure a Super Bowl game to the city, officials said today.

Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association President Bob Bedell said Mayor-elect Greg Ballard's transition team has given the ICVA the green light to begin the process of bidding for the 2012 game. Given the city's experience earlier this year, this effort should be easier to pull together, Bedell said.

While Ballard has yet to appoint a point person, the ICVA didn't want to lose any time and is now reviewing the NFL's requirements for a host city.

One of those requirements: that the host can accommodate a fan and community event for 50,000.

NFL teams owners earlier this year awarded the 2011 game to Dallas.

Bids for the 2012 game are due April 1. A decision is expected at the owners meeting in Atlanta in June.

Me too. I think it was down to us and Dallas as the finalists for 2011, so we're probably the early favorites for this one.

If New Orleans doesn't have a bid in for that year, Indy getting the Bowl is a definite possibility.

(This is not breaking news, I'm just curious to see if I'm still banned.)

The only thing that stands in our way is the climate that time of year. Not for the game, obviously, but for all the other stuff that surrounds it. They got burned that one year when they had it in Detroit (or was it Minneapolis?), and a snowstorm rolled in and made it tough to get around. Yeah, I know the same thing happened a few years ago in Atlanta, but that's a freak thing.

See that's the thing, Indianapolis had a snowstorm right before the AFC Championship game. The speed with which the snow was cleared got them to where they finished the last time around. They lost out to Dallas because of the number of seats the new stadium in Dallas will have. I'm not saying that it's a slam dunk but I'd be surprised if Indy doesn't get it...
