The 76ers have officially replaced King w/ Stefanski.
The Bobcats have signed Verejao to a 3 year offer sheet leaving the Cav's a week to match.
The Jazz gave Sloan a one year extension.
When is Sloan going to retire? The dude has to be ancient years old.
Larry Bird on the Sloan extension - "I've always said players tune a coach out after 3 years".
Good call Larry!
(no, Larry did not say this in regard to this extension)
Larry is probably not entirely wrong with his statement, but I don't think it applies in Sloan's situation.
In an organization that has made a long-term commitment to a coach and stuck by him through thick and thin, it gives the players only 2 choices: listen or leave. Most players in the NBA know that it's much easier to get rid of a coach than to get rid of players. They start dogging it a bit, the team loses, and a new coach is on the way to town. In Utah, you know Sloan is there to stay. If you dog it, you're going to be on the bench or on the way out of town. It's really a novel way to run a franchise in the modern era of sports. The Steelers operate in a similar manner. It seems to work out quite well.
