    Default Simeon Rice Released

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3130157

INDIANAPOLIS -- Defensive end Simeon Rice, signed two weeks ago to fill in for injured Pro Bowler Dwight Freeney, was released Tuesday by the Indianapolis Colts.

Rice, who played one season for Colts coach Tony Dungy at Tampa Bay, was claimed off waivers from Denver after Freeney suffered a season-ending foot injury at San Diego. Rice played the past two games, both as a reserve, and had one sack.

Dungy and other team officials were not available for comment, Colts spokesman Craig Kelley said.

The team also re-signed running back Luke Lawton, who played the first six games mainly on special teams but was released last month.
I didn't see their last 2 games - vs Atlanta wasn't carried in NY and we all know what happened Thanksgiving night.

    Did he suck?

Remember those plays that Freeney would overrun his rush or just get swallowed up along the line? You know, that rough 5-10 percent?

    That was Simeon Rice.

Rice looked like a shadow of his former self to be sure.

I'm gonna say this has as much to do with the high level of play from Dawson and Pitcock as anything. With those two and Ed Johnson being so productive, it allows Raheem Brock to slide over to end on passing situations and Josh Thomas is pretty good against the run. I think the Colt's liked having a fullback on the roster and this opened up a roster spot for that as well.

I not really that surprised, but thought they would give it a little longer for him to show something.

I'm really surprised by this. He was only here two weeks.

He was pretty awful, can't say I'm too surprised.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I like Dawson and I hope they put him on the end more often, at least in passing situations. A Dawson in pass situations and Thomas in run situations isn't really that bad of a combo, IMHO.

I'm really surprised about Rice though, he didn't look great in games and he must have been really awful in practice. I thought they would at least give him another week or two to show something. You can tell by how huge he is that he was once the real deal, looks like he's just lost the speed to compete. He'll probably retire now.

My guess is that Ugoh was owning him in practice bad wheel and all.

Luke, who happened to catch the shovel pass to seal the game.

I laughed my *** off when they showed LAwton's career stats after his touchdown:

    "Career"
    1 reception
    1 yard
    1 TD

Not often do they show "career stats" for a player right after a touchdown, but I guess since thats really all he had, that was a funny way of showing it.
