Default Detroit not good enough for Kobe...trade gets vetoed

    http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Hea...t=NBA&hl=86888

    Bryant
Rotoworld sources are relaying that Detroit radio station 1270 AM reported Wednesday that the Lakers and Pistons had a "done deal" as of 6:45 PM on Tuesday that would have sent Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Amir Johnson and a first-round pick to the Lakers for Kobe Bryant.

Both teams had reportedly agreed to the deal, but Bryant alledgedly vetoed it with his no-trade clause, apparently not wanting to go to a depleted Detroit team. It will be interesting to see how the Pistons' players mentioned in the deal react to this news. Nov. 14 - 7:39 pm et
I don't buy one bit of that, either. Billups, Kobe and Sheed would be every bit as lethal as Boston's trio. Kobe just doesn't want to play in a non-glamor town.

What forwards would the Pistons have if that went down though? Watching a Pistons-Celtics game would definitely be sick though. The best player in the league with help from Billups and soon-to-be-replaced-as-player-who-says-the-wierdest-things-by-Starbury Sheed. No one would be able to guard PP but Kobe would literally **** all over Ray Ray. Too bad. Btw, is this source credible; there might be some merit since it's not ESPN, but is that station a legit source or what?

I agree with you on a lot of things, but those 3 being as good as Boston's three? I'm not buyin it.

If that's true, Kobe is stupid. "I don't want to play for a depleted team."

Newsflash, Kobe: You make $20 million. Any team you're traded to is going to be depleted.

Well, nevermind. I guess Boston could trade Ray Allen for him.

Kobe, Sheed and Chauncey would be pretty scary. Plus you still got Dyess, Maxiell, Nazr, Flip, Lindsey and Stuckey. That's good enough for the two-seed anyway.

    Kobe is at level 1
Pierce and Garnett are at level 2
Allen, Sheed and Billups are level 3

    Fairly equal threesomes IMO.

I don't like Detroit or Kobe, but I would take the Detroit threesome over Boston.

Plus the fact that the Lakers also get excellent value as well.

Kobe is crazy for turning down this deal, it works out nicely for both sides, something not likely to happen again.

Excellent point. Kobe has to realize that any team he goes to will have to pay the other players too. If he rejected a deal like that, he is a fool.

Kobe is an idiot!! He wants to contend, that's a contending team... in the East nonetheless! Detroit is a bad market either!

Kobe wants Chicago, and he wants them to only trade Thabo straight up to get it done.

Just keep him in LA. Let him cry, pout or whatever

According to the ESPN trade checker, Amir Johnson can't be traded until December 15th. So I don't know if this puts this rumor to bed or not.

It could mean that the deal was just in place, ready to happen until 12/15 or that another player was included instead of Amir Johnson, and the insider got it wrong.

Terry Foster seems to be the inside source on the exact details, but ric bucher also reported Joe Dumars made a try at Kobe and failed. There's multiple sources confirming the talks.

Just speculation, but I believe LA would have to include Derek Fisher simply to even out the salaries.

Crazy, I think that's about as fair a trade offer LA is ever gonna get. That'd be a great team to play on for Kobe. I agree it just sounds like Kobe doesn't want to play in Detroit.

Boston's big 3 would still be much much better. I have Kobe and Garnett both as tier 1 players in the NBA. KG has led the league in rebounding 4 years straight and won an MVP and playoff series as the main man. Kobe is the man but he hasn't done that without Shaq.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

the number of teams that kobe would even consider are about 3-4 total.
there is the other l.a. team which the lakers would never do then you got chicago, new york and that team in florida also known as l.a.east. problem with the florida team is that there is this big fat guy down there who hates his guts and so that would never work out.
so, i guess it really comes down to chicago and new york. all the other places are too small a market for him to be happy. his no trade clause is pure b.s. it makes him even more difficult to ship than his crappy attitude. but then again, this is the lakers problem and so i am happy.

It probably got vetoed because Vanessa Bryant is like "You move to Mo Town, we are done. Cheat on me whatever, move me to that city, it's over and believe me I will get half." Kobes like "Buss I'm vetoing that trade, try again Chicago, New York, Orlando only."

Dice has started every game this year at center. He guards the opposing team's center every game. He's our center in every sense of the word.

Geez.....the Lakers must be regretting that no-trade clause now.

To be fair for the Lakers....they don't want to ( and shouldn't ) settle for a lesser deal just to move him.

He's never going to be traded if Kobe vetoes all these trades.

This sucks for the Lakers too. This would have been a really good deal for them. God Kobe is arrogant.

Wow, obviously when you're getting Kobe it's a great deal from your end. But that's the best deal I've heard the Lakers getting amongst all the talks.

Tayshaun is still one of the most underrated players in the league. The guy can take his man into the post whenever he wants to and score with that little hook.

Trade would work for both teams.

Kobe is such a prick. Sometimes he forgets that he's from Filthadelphia.

No doubt. Tay and Rip fit right into the Laker starting lineup. I think both teams get better. Detroit loses some depth, but they needed a better go-to player. The Lakers didn't have enough good players. What a shame, what a shame.
