    Default Keeper League Transactions Thread

OK everyone, this is the thread where, for now, all KL transactions must be conducted.

    Transaction rules are pretty simple.

    1) For a trade to be valid 2 messages must be posted - one from each trade partner (and if you work a multi-team deal, one from each owner involved)

    2) For trades, you can trade draft picks from each of the next 2 drafts - fall 2008 and fall 2009. I don't want to have to keep track of picks from 5 years from now.

    3) All traded draft picks will be unconditional - no top-10 protected or anything.

    4) For FA's, you can simply announce add/drops here. No priority since nobody's played a game. Dropped players will immediately be available for acquisition. We may change that once the season starts but for now, once they're dropped, they're available.

    5) Roster size must be kept at 12 - at least for now. If you want to change that, start a vote thread. The current league rule has 12 as max roster size but can be changed by a vote.

I'll add to the above as more issues come up - I'm sure they will.

I'll also be editing this initial post by inserting the rosters for each league team once I get them added to my file. I'll edit those as I get the chance as transactions take place.

Here are the rosters - check them over and make sure they were correct AT THE TIME THE DRAFT ENDED.

I'm a little fried right now and am gonna take some time to get away from the PC. I'll get on later this PM and update once the initial add/drop frenzy cools down.

I'm dropping Anthony Johnson and picking up Ronnie Turiaf.

I'm also adding Louis Williams from the Sixers to round my roster out at 12 players

Looks like I need to make some moves.

Guards: Kobe Bryant - Andre Miller - Kirk Hinrich - J.J. Redick

    Guard/Forward: Gerald Green

Forward: Anderson Varejao - Hakim Warrick - Amir Johnson

Center: Pau Gasol - Kendrick Perkins - Spencer Hawes - Robert Swift

I'm looking ok at G, thin at F & over stocked at C. Varejao is still unsigned & Gasol, usually a FC is only listed as a C on NBA.com.

Anyone need a C thats over stocked at F?

Tell me if you see anything you like.

Of course, I reserve the right to laugh at unbalanced trade offers.

Its my understanding that we're using the NBA.com positions until they pass a vote. In my case, Gasol has been a F most of his career that has played C & passed a vote to be listed as a CF. This year he's listed as a C. Finding enough info to get a FC vote passed will be a little tougher.

That leaves me with 4 players that only play C.

Gasol, Perkins & Swift are all starters & I think Hawes is going to be the next really good big man. So, for now, I'm kinda stuck, especially with Varejao unsigned.

I can look around for some offers but the bottom line is, if Gasol can pass a FC vote in the first week or two of the season, I'll keep what I've got.

If that is the case then we are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I have one center, Z. and seven forwards. If Bosh does not get F/C eligability I'm in trouble and need to make a big trade.

I have a question regaurding about which area we are getting the position eligability from? On the player pages they only list one position for the player:

    http://www.nba.com/playerfile/ricky_....html?nav=page

but in the fantasy section it lists the postitions they are eligable for fantasy wise:

    http://www.nba.com/fantasy/depthcharts_wc2.html

This is also different from the team roster page:

    http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/roster/

We need to get this matter resolved ASAP so everyone can know where they stand with their rosters. I will probably need to make a move any how since Bosh only has eligability as a F.

I hear ya. If the eligibility changes than I have 5 forwards and lose my starting center.

This is actually an able question - I don't have an answer. Personally, Okur's player page and Utah's roster page both have him listed as F - based on that alone I know I'll have at least 1 vote to put up and probably more, if that's where the position assignments come from. Not terribly worried right now but by this weekend we should all think about voting.

Keep in mind I do have the position assignments from the 05-06 season (for players who were on a roster that summer). If everyone prefers and IF it doesn't screw up what able needs to do I can use that - but keep in mind that at the end of the 1st KL season we decided to not carry over position changes from 1 year to the next but to go with the site assignments and vote on any changes the next year. So I guess that would take a vote, along with it being OK with able.

I'm cool with not carrying them over from last year. I think we may have gone away from that, but I like that actually. We just need to make sure we all agree where we are starting from.

I'm not sure the "real" roster listings on web pages are adjusted through the season for the range of positions a player may play as often as the listings on the fantasy sites are. Maybe the starting list of positions needs to be from what the majority of fantasy sites have a player as verses what their "real" postition listing is? I know this would take some time to compile, so maybe it is not possible this season, but it may be an enhancement we look to in the futre.

I remember running across a stats-based NBA site awhile back that had a player notes section where they had per-game breakdowns for multiposition players, for example,

Player X played 67 games total last year
He played 23 games at primarily at shooting guard
He played 44 games primarily at small forward

I remember thinking "I should bookmark that site" but I didn't. Anybody else see something like that? I'm not sure where they based their info, but it seemed reasonable for a few guys that I looked at.

    OK since I'm mentioned here:

I do not decide what the position of the players is, in fact I could not care less (from a coding point of view) because if I want to make JO play G I can!

However that said; the rules have been that we take the position from "a" site, in this case NBA.com, and form there ppl ask for votes.

The votes have a set of rules as in proof and such and I am all in favour of doing it that way, because frankly carrying it over is silly, just because some player played C instead of F for 2 or 3 months due to an injury or whatever doesn't mean he's going to see 1 minute at the C this year

So if you can make a case for a positionchange, then fine by me, if not, then as they say here; you're sod out of luck.

But where on the NBA site are we pulling the position information, since it was noted that sometimes the team roster, the individual player profile, and the depth chart in the fantasy section (all on nba.com) have different information?

In theory I would prefer to start with the nba.com fantasy depth charts since the purpose of these pages is actually to advise people where team owners should be allowed to use players in fantasy basketball. I dont know if they are accurate enough thoough.

    western conference: http://www.nba.com/fantasy/depthcharts_wc2.html
    eastern conference: http://www.nba.com/fantasy/depthcharts_ec2.html

Every list seems to have some inaccuracies that need to be "fixed" by vote. In the links above, for example, Jermaine O'Neal is NOT listed as eligible as a Center but a PF only, and Peja and McGrady are listed as shooting guards with no eligibility for SF.

We're like-minded on that. I liked their list too as our baseline for positions.

Like Theo Ratliff listed a PG/SG.

Errors like that make me very leery of their list.

Sorry but I pulled the data from the "official" NBA lists, not the fantasy lists, as they (imo) are less "official"

Playerlist & profile are what in principle will determine a position, that is the data I downloaded into the new databse, changing that for a few is ok, changing all data is a lot of work.

( as the fields are not in the same position, extrapoloating is not as easy so may need to be done "by hand" and that's a bitch)

I have a glut at F, with six guys currently playing only that position:

    Rodney Carney F
    Dorrell Wright F
    Ryan Gomes F
    Paul Millsap F
    Tim Thomas F
    Luis Scola F

I could maybe use another G, particularly in a trade for any of the last four forwards above, who would be unlikely candidates for a GF vote.

Sorry but I pulled the data from the "official" NBA lists, not the fantasy lists, as they (imo) are less "official"

Playerlist & profile are what in principle will determine a position, that is the data I downloaded into the new databse, changing that for a few is ok, changing all data is a lot of work.

In just re-checking, it looks like NBA.com has updated their position lists - for my players, Okur has been changed to a center which is fine.

I'm going to put a position vote up for Shareef Abdur-Rahim just to remind everyone how it should be done. The important parts are:

    1) Clear subject line - I would suggest: "Keeper League Position Vote - Player Name"

    2) Justification - "He did last year" is not generally considered justification. You should have at least one and preferable several links

    3) The poll itself - "Should 'playername' be changed from Center to Center-Forward" with 2 options - yes and no.

    4) The vote should be set to end in 24 hours.

    5) The vote should be public

In order to pass a vote needs at least 7 yes votes with more yes than no's - a 7-7 vote does not pass. Neither does 6-0 but 7-6 does.

I had drafted Carney last year. He's a G/F. Check this out from the local Philly paper.

"And one of the most interesting battles is at shooting guard, where Willie Green and Rodney Carney are competing. (Point guard Lou Williams also could see time at shooting guard.)

Carney is also able to play the small-forward spot."
Hey! What're you kicking me for? You want me to ask? All right, I'll ask! Ma'am, where do the high school girls hang out in this town?
