That's good. I thought he played well when he played. It was weird to hear he got cut before the final game.

Maybe they cut him to see if someone better would be dropped by another team and then after sifting through the slush pile realized they should just go ahead and sign him for added depth.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

    "
I asked Courtney to seriously consider going with our Fort Wayne team because he knows our system," O'Brien said. "I think Courtney has good low-post moves, he shoots the basketball well, he needs to – and I was very open with him – get tougher and stronger to be able to compete with the big guys. That's the only thing that's going to hold him back from being on an NBA roster. I would prefer him to be there so we could keep track of him. I really like what Coach (Kent) Davison does up there. I know him and I think he's the type of coach Courtney will benefit from."
This is to stop him from signing a Europe deal. Keeping him close when we have injuries.

Hmm he will be with the Mad Ants cool.

It sounds like they are going to be working with the Fort Wayne team more than I had thought.

While he is on the Mad Ants, does that constitute taking up one of our roster spots? I mean fromt he article, it appears the "Indiana Pacers signed him" not the Mad Ants. How does that work?

We signed him to an NBA contract but stashed him on the Ants. He'll play there, but will be available to get "called up" if we need him.

I'm not the most knowledgeable on college hoops, but it seems we could have done this just as easily with Byars.

EDIT: Or, based on what people are saying in the other thread, the other other Williams.

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

If he is indeed 6'11'' and has a nice touch around the basket, and isn't someone that is addicted to fouling, that's enough to interest me right here.

Based off of everything I have read about him (some of this was alluded to) he is very soft, needs to bulk up, and become a bit more of an enforcer. His website says that he is a "gentle giant." That's fine off the court, but on the court I hope he develops an attitude. Height, a physical presence, and a nice touch around the basket are all things valued in the NBA, and if they can be combined into one player, all the better.

I'm a huge Michigan fan, and everybody here knows I love to back my local guys in the pros. I was a huge Rawle Marshall guy when he was here.

Courtney Sims will last about 2 months in the NBA, if that. He wasn't even man enough for the big 10.

yeah, our frontcourt depth, with ike and harrison and maybe even shawne williams seems pretty set both currently and for the future. i'd have thought that last roster spot would be better spent on a guard prospect. we have quis and rush right now, but quis has a horrible injury history while rush might be gone this time next year, and that's assuming he pans out.

maybe tptb see something more in sims. on the other hand, we're the same team that thought john edwards had potential.

EDIT: the star article makes it sound like a short term thing

The Indiana Pacers signed center Courtney Sims this afternoon.

Sims, who was released by the Pacers last week, is being brought in as a precaution because Jermaine O'Neal and Troy Murphy are doubtful for the season opener Wednesday against the Washington Wizards at Conseco Fieldhouse.

The Pacers have just three healthy big men -- Jeff Foster, Ike Diogu and David Harrison.

Forward Shawne Williams, who sprained his left ankle in practice today, is suspended for the first three games of the season.

I don't think he's worthy of being on my Mad Ants, but hopefully he'll be nice practice fodder for Chick Samb.

Draft Express says Cheick Samb's absolute best case scenario is Mikkie Moore, and at 7'1" 195 lb. with little to no basketball skills, I'd say his best case scenario would be working as a giraffe in The Lion King on Ice.

And if it makes you feel better, the guys at NBADraft.net didn't compare him to Mikkie Moore. Actually they didn't compare him to anyone since he's so irrelevant they didn't even bother posting a profile for him.

What's silly is you guys are trading punches over Sims. Meanwhile, JO & Troy will be free to go trick or treating on Wednesday.

Oh, let's not exaggerate here. Surely he'll last at least as long as Jon Edwards.

    oh, so it's your comparison?

The guy at Best Buy>DraftExpress>the guy that's been banned 25 times already.

Samb is a guy with a lot of NBA potential. He's very tall, has a long wingspan, has great defensive instincts, as well as a nasty turnaround mid-range jumper.

Sims is a guy that SHOULD have NBA potential, but has no heart. He got beaten up by every average center the big 10 had to offer.

From everything I've read and heard, Cheick Samb is a poor mans Saer Sene, who himself is a poor mans Desagana Diop. That's just the truth. Sims has proven more both via the NCAA and the NBA pre-season, thus he should be the starter, provided they can't start together.

On a related topic....since we are talking about players that won't get too many minutes in the league anymore:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slu...v=st&type=lgns

Raptors waive swingman Jackson to get down to 15-man limit

    October 29, 2007
TORONTO (TICKER) -- The Toronto Raptors waived swingman Luke Jackson from their preseason roster to get down to a league-mandated 15-man limit for the regular season that begins Tuesday.

Jackson, who signed with the Raptors at the end of last season, averaged 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in five preseason games.

In accordance with league rules, teams were required to reduce their training camp rosters to a maximum of 15 players by 6:00 p.m. Monday evening.
Wasn't it rumored that Bird was interested in Luke Jackson awhile ago during the 2004 draft?
