    Armstrong to be released
After failing to work out a trade with Dallas or Golden State, the Pacers are expected to release veteran point guard Darrell Armstrong on Monday, a person with knowledge of the situation said Friday night.
Armstrong is expected to sign with the Mavericks after he's released, the person said.
Armstrong, who has a non-guaranteed contract with Indiana, would have been the odd man out with the Pacers because Travis Diener is penciled in as starter Jamaal Tinsley's backup. Andre Owens and Marquis Daniels can also play the position.
    Well, there you have it.

The only thing that really saddens me is that I think our locker room would really benefit from a calming, veteran voice in the locker room. Who fills that role now? I don't think it can be underestimated.

Jeff Foster is now the oldest player on the team (he turned 30 last January), being the only one born in 1977. Wow.

I'm not sure Armstrong actually provided that last season, or had much success if he tried, so the loss/difference there might not be all that great.

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

    Yeah I agree.

I think we needed more players such as Armstrong in the locker room.

Darrell Armstrong a calming influence? LOL. Yeah right.

Armstrong was the only guy keeping us in some games last year. It will be a loss.

What's worse is, who knows if Tinsley and/or Quis will be both healthy and out of jail? Quis is not even a PG IMO. Owens and Diener are nothing at this point.

We are relying solely on JT who is barely average himself...and certainly not reliable. Something must be done and Diener and Owens are not the answer. That position and our shooting woes are the #1 and #2 issues.

    Give Diener a chance.

OK, so they expect Deiner will be at least as good of a PG as Armstrong or at least last a little longer.

But none of that is really saying much.

Releasing Red Bull means we now have a roster spot open. I wonder if they've worked out a deal for a "mystery player"...

I also agree. Army was a spazz on the court, constantly taking risks for steals and jacking up 3's at a HIGHER per minute rate than guys like Jackson and Tinsley...oh, and at a worse make rate after NOV (sub 30).

He got on refs and was carried away at one point. Plus was the team really that calm and guided at any point at all?

This doesn't mean I didn't like Army. I liked his constant engine despite the flaws it created and I liked his positive attitude. He was the one that had the bench up and cheering all the time during the first half of the season.

But at the same time the Pacers just aren't losing much outside of a seemingly pretty good guy. I mean if he impacted the team in the 2nd half of the season then just how awful are they going to be this year? 16 wins, maybe 20?

Better hope he had almost zero impact on that 25 win pace over the last 3 months. This roster isn't in the position to take a single further step downward from where they were in March/April, talent and performance-wise I mean.

Having guards is overrated anyway. Who needs em? Guards, smards is what I always say.

Can't wait to see which new SF we bring in to replace him.

i did... until the mavs cut Pops. i thought that deal made sense since we are still going after a big and obviously dallas wants armstrong and wanted to get rid of Pops. other than that, i didn't really see another deal possible.
    This is the darkest timeline.
