Tough one between Travis and Byron. Byron for impact and teaching the P's to win and Travis for impact and longevity (although he drove me freaking nuts)

Gotta go with the Laker on this one. He helped put the Pacers on the map.

Travis goes #2 for taking advantage of that magnificent Dale Davis rebound.

Yeesh, Best shouldn't even be in the running. Seriously. Maybe not enough people saw Williams play, but the comparison with Best is a joke. Much better PG. The only reason I didn't go with Scott was because he was a Laker for hire more than a Pacer, great though he was in his short time.

The joker in me wanted to vote Travis Pound the Ball Best. His number was based on the time on the shot clock before he even considered whether he would pass or shoot. We're just lucky he didn't have 1, 2, or 3!

Byron's contribution to the Pacers was more important IMHO.

Btw, who says we're voting on "contributions to the Pacers"? I'm just voting for the guy I feel like represents that number...and I happened to grow into my own as a Pacers fan during the Best years...

As much as I enjoyed Byron Scott's time with the Pacers, I vote for Micheal Williams here. Being an important part of the 1991 team gets a special place in Jay's heart.

I think even Byron would agree the number belongs to Dantley.

It's odd that we have a few sticking points that we go round about because for the most part we have what appears to be an identical interaction with this team.

I know Byron has the Magic shot, but how can a person not put in the Person vs Bird playoff series and not love Williams as a Pacer. He was over 2 steals a game in back to back seasons for that team and was one of 6 reasons Bob Hill had to be fired (Reggie, Chuck, Rik, Dale, Detlef).

    GD that Pooh trade.

Best can have a janitor's jumper with #4 on it. I mean he spent years pounding nails back into the floor at MSA/Conseco, he should get an honorary maintenence job when he retires.

Or was he killing bugs and rats, it was hard to tell. Heck, maybe he thought he was in a killer drum circle, I don't know.

Tough choice but I went with Travis.

Byron helped up get over the hump but he didn't do anything else after that. Travis' game-winner saved the 2000 season and he had that game winner against the Bulls in 98' that sent it to game 7.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

I just don't get this. I can't think of a single thing that Travis did better than Micheal Williams did.

    Better defender? MWill
    Better shooter? MWill
Better FT%? MWill (who was better from the FT line than Reggie).
    Better passer? MWill
    Better court vision? Duh
    Better finisher? MWill

Jay's_Wife@Aisle20 even tells me that MWill was "cuter" than Travis.

All your other points may have been valid, but once you tried to introduce this "fact" into the argument you discredited everything you said. Travis Best only registers as a 2 on the (Matt) Geiger Counter. That's the same level as Devin Harris for christ's sake!

Jay, the problem is more people need to see video. The "Reggie" DVD set didn't go back far enough. Same reason why Detlef is overlooked now. Everyone locked in on Reggie's playoff heroics, but there was some exciting ball going on just prior to that even if Hill couldn't make the most of it.

8.2 assists, 2.9 steals, 49% FG, 87% 3P, 2nd team All-NBA Defense...this they traded to get Pooh, along with sending Chuck for Mitchell. Ugh.

Michael just got injured a few seasons later, same as Woody. But prior to that he had a great PG career going on. The guy has the record for consecutive FTs made (done in Minny).

    Worst. Trade. Ever.

(I found my game program for the 1991 playoffs over the weekend. I'll scan it soon for the PD archives.)

I would've voted for Michael Williams if he had played here longer. He was the total package PG wise. DW's worse trade was shipping him and Chuck for Pooh Richardson and Sam Mitchell, although Sam was servicealbe. That was strictly a money-saving trade and one that I bet DW regrets.
