Default The greatest team ever assembled turns 15...

    http://www.nba.com/features/dream_te...rs_070807.html

Today is the 15th anniversary of the dream team winning the gold medal in Barcelona.

To this day, it's the best-passing team I've ever seen, and I highly doubt I'll ever see anything like it.

Great videos. It amazes me every time I think about how exponentially the skills of the rest of the world rose in just 10 years. It took monumental beat downs from this team for the rest of the world to realize just how far they had to go to compete with the US. You could tell those international teams just didn't know how to deal with an opponent where every guy on the floor knew exactly what to do in every situation, even when a play went bad.

Of course I love the Dream Team, but I was expecting to see a thread about my Little League All Star team.

    We still get no respect.

I remember the scores, and watching some of the games, but I wish I was a little older to really appreciate what it was. We'll never see another team like that again. It just won't happen. It's sad.

The best team ever to be assembled and to ever be assembled. We need like three more draft classes like Lebron's to even come close

    Great post K-Stat.

They still really can't compete with us in my mind. It's just the last few times we haven't really sent our best players over. In 2003 we basically sent a bunch of young guys (D Wade, Lebron James, Emeka Okafor, etc...) and last year we didn't have Kobe Bryant. U.S is gonna return to something that half resembles that above. Which is still a gold medel team because The Dream Team would just blow people out.

That team would still mop the floor with international competition.

    Charles Barkley
    Larry Bird
    Clyde Drexler
    Patrick Ewing
    Magic Johnson
    Michael Jordan
    Karl Malone
    Chris Mullin
    Scottie Pippen
    David Robinson
    John Stockton
    Christian Laettner?

They'd also mop the floor with whatever product USA puts out next time.

    Hahahaha.
The only reason I'm laughing is because your team sucked and yet you still expect a hero's welcome. The only reason you won that last game was because your 3rd baseman took a huge lead on EVERY base, even though stealing isn't allowed in that age group. Not to mention your pitcher's obvious pine tar obsession and the "Major League Chew Incident" in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Now, on the other hand, my soccer traveling team was boss that year...

You guys may have been boss, but that team will always only be remembered for the Colombian drug lords that assassinated your 10-year-old center midfielder after he scored that own-goal to knock you out of the Playoffs.

And for the record, the kid had it coming.

I lost 25 Garbage Pail Kids betting the under on that damn game.

There was only one Dream Team, but Reg was on the 2nd USA team of NBA guys that played in the Olympics.

technically i think there was a dream team 2 at the 1994 WBC in Toronto and Reggie was on that team.

1994 World Championship Team, or Dream Team II

    "Dream Team II" logo.

The second Dream Team competed in the 1994 World Championship, held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This was an entirely new roster, as USA Basketball elected to showcase stars who were not present at the 1992 Olympics. Composed primarily of younger NBA players, the team lacked the widespread appeal of its predecessor but nevertheless continued its dominance. The 1994 roster included Isiah Thomas recently retired from the NBA, Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Miller, Dominique Wilkins, Joe Dumars, Alonzo Mourning, Mark Price, Shawn Kemp, Dan Majerle, Derrick Coleman, Larry Johnson and Kevin Johnson. Coached by Don Nelson of the Golden State Warriors, this team easily captured the gold medal in tournament play

Dream Team 2 was without a doubt the best-shooting team ever assembled, but as an overall team it was not on par with the original dream team, which excelled at every conceivable aspect of the game.

It was awesome to watch dream team 2 at times, though. They'd have stretches where they hit 6, 7, 8 shots in a row, and make it look easy. Dumars, Miller Majerle and Price had a field day with the closer 3-point line.

Tecnically, I refer to myself exclusively as Senor Mysterioso II. That doesn't mean I'm actually mysterious though.

There was only one Dream Team, despite what some PR department has to say about it.

this is why i used the word technically there was a dream team II. meaning it technically existed but no it definitely did not compare to '92

I actually disagree. That first clip featured quality NBA guys like Kukoc and Sabonis getting punked on, both while they were young enough to be at their best. Arvy even as an aging player was one of the top fundamentals big men you'd like to see and when he was younger he was quick too.

The key is that youthful or in their prime guys like Robinson or Pippen were that much better than them. Don't try to tell me that any of the international guys would have stopped that Admiral throwdown on Arvy, or that Kukoc didn't get eaten for lunch trying to go lane by some elite defenders.

That team would DESTROY this current version. It wouldn't be close. You forget just how fundamentally strong they were, as KStat mentioned how great their passing skills were, and how comfortable even aging or slow guys like Magic, Bird and Mullin were with playing uptempo ball movement and aggressive defense. I mean Mully gets a backdoor steal and break even.

To me a young Robinson is better than Duncan, he's far more athletic and quick. Jordan was better than Lebron is now. Barkley was better than Bosh is. Drexler was WAY better than Melo is. And so on.

What I see is just how far down US/NBA ball has fallen, how much good fundamentals have been lost and just how much slower it is as a game. I'd blame the Bad Boys, but they could play some serious offense. It had more to do with Pat Riley's Knicks/Heat and those Cavs teams post Price/BD era.

Oh Booger. He couldn't help he had 2 left feet and a penchant for mining. But drug lords never have been understanding about the frail and mishapen. I just don't get where you come off piling on like that.

Flattering, but no chance. I'll soon hopefully have a job where they fire people as unproductive as me.

LG33 is a worthy runner up. But haven't you seen Stanky's Gang? MR has already clinched again, I think.

MagicRat gets forum MVP nominations while completely avoiding making serious basketball posts. That's impressive.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Hahah, I'm flattered, but I bow to the master MR as well.

P.S. I would pwn JayRedd. He's so not "now". I mean, he still regrets losing Garbage Pail Kids.
