What do we really want in return?

    expiring contracts?
    vets?
    rookies?
    picks?

I think in a trade with the Warriors we can get it all.

I know GSW will only trade one of Ellis/Bellinelli/Wright alongside bigger contracts so this is what I cooked up:

    JO
    DA

    for

    Wright
    2008 #1 pick
    Pietrus (S&T 14m 3 yrs)
    Jasikevicius (exp)
Foyle (3 yrs remaining with last year a team option)

Brandan Wright is the centerpiece of the deal. He has unlimited potential and is a project for the future. Diogu will get his chance at the PF spot untill Wright takes over.

The 2008 #1 pick will probably be somewhere around #20 but this year there were still some good players available.

Pietrus can play at the SG spot, he's a good defender and is a slasher like Daniels.

I won't say anything about Jasikevicius, as most of you know how I think about him.

Foyle adds to the bad contracts we already received from the Warriors but the main thing is that his contract expires when we need to resign Granger & Diogu.

    Our lineup after this trade:

    PG - Tinsley/Jasikevicius/Diener
    SG - Daniels/Pietrus/Rush
    SF - Granger/Dunleavy/Williams
    PF - Diogu/Murphy/Wright
    C - Foster/Foyle/Harrison

I can live with that roster.

I would rather get Monta Ellis. it would fill our pg void

its interesting to say the least. that would leave us with...

    tinsley / harris / diener / armstrong / owens (5)
    daniels / rush / ager / robinson / buckner (5)
    granger / dunleavy / williams / graham (4)
    murphy / diogu / foster (3)
    krstic / mbenga / ilic / harrison (4)
    TOTAL = 21

how do we get to 15?
armie and owens seem like to first two - don't exercise DA's option and cut andre while contract is only partially guarenteed. down to 19.

graham would be the next casualty. 18.

we'd have to choose between buckner and robinson since they're both defense first guys. buckner has longer and more expensive deal so we stick with him.

    tinsley / harris / diener (3)
    daniels / rush / ager / buckner (4)
    granger / dunleavy / williams (3)
    murphy / diogu / foster (3)
    krstic / mbenga / ilic / harrison (4)
    TOTAL = 17

now we've got to cut two out of mbenga, ilic, harrison, ager and rush. rush, because of his shooting, seems like a no-brainer to keep. ager has a ton of potential, but with buckner, daniels, rush and dunleavy capable of playing SG he could be expendable. mbenga and ilic are really unknowns as far as i'm concerned. we know what harrison does. what type of depth do we need upfront? shawne, murphy, foster, diogu, krstic can all play in the frontcourt. given obrien's offense, danny and dunleavy probably could as well. any thoughts?

ultimately this deal comes down to JO for harris, krstic and whatever prospect we end up keeping.
    This is the darkest timeline.

Well, we could keep Ilic in Europe another year.

Or try to swing a two-for-one, maybe get someone to take a prospect+Tinsley off our hands?

Or, of course, trade one of the prospects for a second rounder.

I'm more interested in what people think of the core deal. Essentially JO for Harris, Krstic, and a few prospects (Ilic, Ager). I like it, I think Dallas is the one that would have to sign off on it, although I swear I heard they were shopping Harris for perimeter scoring and RJeff is very underrated cause he's been playing behind Vince. He just wouldn't fit in with our rebuilding plans cause of his contract and age.

thats the biggest thing for me about jeff, he's a SF that doesn't shoot from the perimeter all that well. i also didn't realize ilic was in europe. hoopshype had him listed in the depth chart.

ultimately i like the deal better than the straightup deal with NJ that was rumored.

i don't know if the mavs are looking for perimeter scoring as much as hoping to move howard to SG and bring in a SF. i've heard both harris' and terry's names surface in those rumors but its been a number of weeks since i heard anything like that.

would dallas be happy with a lineup of terry / howard / jefferson / dirk / dampier? i would think so.

Maybe you're right. I heard good things about him for a while, then that the Nets had soured on him, so it might not even matter.

I think so too, when your best player is a perimeter scorer I think you can absorb a perimeter non-shooter like Jefferson much better than, say, we could. And we know the Mavs are not scared to deal. However, they would have a glut of wing-men on the bench. They traded away AJ, right? They'd also be missing a back-up PG.
