    Default Kareem Rush signed

    http://www.lrytas.lt/?data=20070703&...1826548&view=4

Shortly - Lithuanian newspaper "Lietuvos rytas" (also sponsors the basketball club "Lietuvos rytas" where Rush played this season) mentions that Kareem Rush has been signed by the Pacers to one year for around $850 000.

And that Kareem would have got a lot more money in Europe, but he wanted to play in the NBA.

I don't mind that signing at all. He's an end of bench player who can play when called upon and with a low salary.

Which means if it doesn't work out he has another option.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if this is a non-guaranteed contract - becomes guaranteed after December 1 or something.

And Larry Bird can now say he has his shooter.

Do you remember a few years ago when Chauncey was burning down every message board he could find bragging that Rush was better than Fred Jones? Hehe good times...

Signed for 850K. I'd say that leaves plenty of room to still sign Matt Carroll or another player.

Now, following that momentary break, let the trades begin.

Agreed! I don't think it could hurt having a guy like Kareem to come off the bench to be our Vinny Johnson. I think he'd be a decent addition because he's coming back to the league with a chip on his shoulder knowing he has a lot to prove.

He'll be a major upgrade over Rawle Marshall at any rate.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

In this morning's Star Mike Wells only said they "had a strong interest" in Rush. No mention of a signing.

Did he get scooped by a Lithuanian reporter?

    LOL!

In the sense that Vinny was a shooter without a conscience and played no 'D'. Besides, Vinny wasn't a prolific scorer or an All-Star player by any means but he had a sweet stroke and could put points up in little playing time.

If true, it's a very good low risk by the Pacers. They get a guy who statistically speaking is in the company of the likes of Billups, Kobe and Kidd as far as his 3P% is concerned.

Now, before you guys start cruxifying me, just check out his stats from when he played with the Lakers and Charlotte. If you extrapolate his career w/the Bobcats out for the full 82 games each season, I think it's safe to assume Rush would have still avg. somewhere in the .348-.360 3PM range which is exactly where the three veteran players mentioned above avg'd last year (ranked #144, 145 and 147, respectively, per NBA.com's ranking of the 2006-2007 3P FG% leaders). He avg'd .345 for his career. So, I don't think I'm stretching his potential that far.

Unfortunately, I can't find his stats from his Lithuanian team. Knowing how well he has done over there statistically, as well as his overall character, I think would go a long way towards easing some of the anxiety the fans feel about him.

do fans feel anxiety about him as a player and for the price? i don't think so... i think the anxiety is coming from a fear that this is going to be birds only move of the summer. that this was the shooter he was talking about.

Found this link to Rush's '06-07 stats w/his Lithuanian team. Keep in mind the Euro league plays a much shorter season than the NBA, but for what it's worth it doesn't look like Rush did too bad.

The previous statistics were from ULEB cup (second strongest European international competition after Euroleague).

Rush's Lithuanian League statistics. The only other really strong team is Zalgiris there and perhaps Siauliai.

And the Baltic Basketball League statistics. At this part of season Lietuvos Rytas played the 2 other best Lithuanian teams and 3 best Latvian teams. (Well, I saw Travis Best in Riga a few years ago, this was my second chance to see a Pacer affiliated player, but who could have known, I was lazy and watched games on TV)

Keep in mind that Kareem Rush joined Lietuvos Rytas only the second half of the season (I can't remember exactly, I think it was March or something. EDIT - It was January).

As long as he's not Bird's prized sharp shooter I have no problem with adding him to the roster. Hes usually good for one good game out of 82.

This is a guy you sign in August or September, not two days into FA season.

That's more realistic considering the things that have been said about him. He's not likely to jump right back into a big payday. He has to earn his way back, which is how it should be. This first season back is going to be all about disproving doubters, which can only be of benefit to us. But at 850K, that's not that bad a risk for us.
