If you're Jermaine O'Neal, what does it do to your confidence to see a guy wearing your number with the words "Stanko" above it?

"Yeah, JO, we want to keep you here..."
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

I'm pretty sure you can just say the '07 just indicated the year in which Stanko was drafted.

I've grown to actually like the Stank pick-up. It gives us someone to keep an eye on over in Europe. I know we had Lorbek, but Stanko sounds much more promising. Here's what a mod over on Real GM wrote.....

    Steal of the draft!!!!

    Stanko Barac

    Position: Center

he finished the Adriatic League Season with: (Top 5 domestic League in Europe)

    13.0 PPG
    7.1 RPG (#2 Adriatic League)
    1.8 BPG (#3 Adriatic League)
    1.4 APG
    15.3 EFF (#10 Adriatic League)

    ---------

Ante Tomic (half year younger than Barac)

Round: 1 Pick: 9 in 2008 Mock Draft

    (draftexpress.com)

Tomic + Barac both are playing in the Adriatic League:

    Code:
    2006/07

        Barac Tomic

    PPG 13.0 12.3
    RPG 7.1 5.3
    APG 1.4 0.8
    BPG 1.8 0.4
    -----------

    Barac is improving very fast:

    Code:

    PPG 1.5 4.0 13.0

    BPG 0.2 0.5 1.8

And there's more positive around the net...

Here's the first small paragraph from his Draft Express profile..

Barac can be considered one of the biggest sleepers in this draft if he opts to stay in, given the great size and promising skill-set he possesses. He had quite an impressive season playing for Siroki in the Adriatic league, ranking 2nd and 3rd in rebounds and blocked shots per game respectively.
Here's his overview from CBS Sportsline...

One of the best-kept secrets on the European circuit, Barac's offensive development matches that of his athletic frame. He's grown more than four inches during the past two years and added bulk prior to the 2006-07 season.
The result was a newfound, yet still-developing offensive game, as he more than tripled his scoring average and blocked shot total and doubled his rebounding numbers from the previous season.
    From Yahoo Sports....

Barac is quite coordinated for a 7-footer. He is able to beat his man off of the dribble despite not being an exceptional athlete. He has consistent shooting range out to the international 3-point line. His ballhandling skills are above average for a center prospect. He plays incredibly strong, initiating contact and taking the ball to the rim at every available opportunity. Barac has proven to be a solid rebounded and shot-blocker on the international level.
He also reputedly has a good attitude and a strong work ethic. Seeing how much he's improved the past few seasons and that he's still only 20 gives me some hope he'll turn out to be a good NBA player. I know most don't like the idea of waiting, but it was a 2009 2nd rounder anyways.

Bird man said Stank is 7' 2". If he can put on another 30lbs...which for a young big man may happen in a couple years, we might come out of this smelling like a rose.

Judging by his numbers for a thin as he is he really makes an attempt to crash the boards, which is always appealing.

If he even comes and just plays the role of a solid backup center for the team I'd be satisfied with the acquisition. If he was the Keith McLeod of our frontcourt rotation, for a second rounder that would be quite alright.

I'm still hungover from the Saranus saga and also from the fact that Lorbeck has actually GOTTEN WORSE in Europe since we picked him up.

And now I'm relying on a guy named Stanko to change my perception

    PPG progression:

    1.5
    4.0
    13.0

    I graphed it:

His scoring is increasing by an average of 295% each year.

At this rate he will score 38 ppg next year and 114 ppg the year after. If he stays 4 years like Bird hints, he will be scoring 996 points a game.

Bird may be on to something.

Says a lot about the Adriatic league, doesn't it?

Funny, if you take the word "to" away from that sentence, how much the meaning changes......

LOL at MR. Well done sir.

Not the "pic" of '07 though.
That distinction belongs to Dunleavy riding a camel in the Milky Way, also a MR creation.

JO put on forty pounds to bulk up when Brad Miller left. And in hindsight, we all wish he hadn't.

JO's bio at basketballreference.com and RealGM still list him at his Blazers' height and weight of 6'11" and 226 lbs but he was closer to 6'11"/ 220 pounds when the Pacers traded for him. He's currently listed at 6'11" and 260 pounds, although a couple of seasons ago he was listed at 7'0"/ 255 pounds.
