Danny Ainge is letting the fans run the team...that's comical.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Looks like my trade proposal was pretty damn close to what was on the table.

I don't buy the B.S. about a GM floating a rumor to test its fans' reaction. That's the stuff of message board hyperbole. Does he go online? Does he call season ticket holders? How long does he wait? Throw out a rumor and 10 a.m. and feel out the reaction till 3, then back out? Give me a break.

I think something will eventually be worked out in this whole mess. From what I'm reading elsewhere, the rumored deal had the Celtics giving up #5 and Al Jefferson, so you can't blame Ainge for pulling out of that deal. However something with Green. West. and #5 is still very possible.

Weak move by Ainge, but he's a terrible GM for the most part so I didn't really expect any less. It would be interesting to see what sort of effect Kobe had on the death of the deal as well, saying he would still demand a trade if KG was not added. Ainge is an idiot for thinking of the #5 pick as necessary to his team in a way other than using it as a trading tool. The average age of the team is like 17 anyway.

I am tired of all of Kobe's ****ing and moaning, **** him and his no trade clause, he should be traded to a cold, ****ty city with a bad team like Minnesota for Garnett, Ricky Davis, and Troy Hudson just to spite him.

And I wouldn't have wanted to have Odom in this deal anyway. He's a malcontent, we have good F's even without JO, he even leans to playing the 3 rather than the 4 sometimes, so screw it. I would wait till July 1 and add McKie to make the salaries work rather than add Odom or add Vlad's terrible contract. Give me McKie, Kwame, #19, and Bynum. No other way do I do the trade.

    UncleBuck has lost him mind.

Show me once when KG has defended somebody in the paint. He's a fine perimeter defender, but he's got nothing on JO in terms of owning the paint, protecting the rim, etc.
I guess we disagree - KG is a better defender in every category.

I also hope some of you are starting to realize that JO's trade value isn't very high. Lakers backed out of the original deal, because they didn't want to trade Odom and Bynum for JO and now the Celtics backed out because they don't want to trade Jefferson and the 5th pick for JO. Seems almost like JO's trade value is plummeting by the day. I hate to see the next JO rumor

If anything, I would think that other teams would step up to the plate for JO to make the 4way work.

Chicago, Charlotte, New Jersey and Golden St. come to mind

Which do you think the Wolves would prefer?

    Bynum, Odom, & Brown
    OR
    Green, West, and #5?

To me, it's no contest. Easily the former.

If this trade went down, i would love to trade odom over to the t -wolves for their #7 pick and get some backcourt help. The last thing we need is more 3-4 forwards. Let diogu and granger start, put bynum in the middle and pray something works out

The Lakers are now back to direct two-team talks with the Timberwolves. However, sources say, Minnesota General Manager Kevin McHale wants young players and high draft choices and isn't keen on the Lakers' offer of Andrew Bynum, who is young (19), and Lamar Odom (27), who isn't.
How does McHale intend to match KG's salary if he's only willing to take on young players?

If the deal was #5 + Jefferson, I'm not surprised that the C's pulled out....that's way too much to give up to get JONeal in the first place.

Don't forget that while the first deal is a 2 team LA/Minny deal, the second deal with Boston would bring other assets to Minny: #19, Ratliff's expiring contract and Brown's expiring contract.

Makes the two deals a bit more equal.

Odom's contract is ends in the 2008-2009 season....he maybe the closest thing to another huge expiring contract that the Lakers have next to Kwame.

However, I still wonder why the TWolves would trade KG to the Lakers.......this helps the Lakers short term for the next 2 to 3 seasons and puts the TWolves in automatic rebuild mode with Odom+Bynum+19 alongside Kwame's expiring contract.

The best deal I can see that happens between the Lakers and TWolves is Odom+Bynum+19th+Kwame+filler for KG+Jaric. This clears out Jaric's long term contract for the TWolves while giving the Lakers a suitable pseudo-PG in Jaric to be a 3rd/4th fiddle next to KG+KB.

Unfortunately, I do think that a KG+Jaric trade scenario for the Lakers ( assuming that the trade involves Odom+Bynum+19th+Kwame+filler ) is a preferable over a JONeal+Tinsley ( or Murphy ) trade scenario.

The Wolves don't want Odom's contract , they want a high draft pick + more cap space.

The orginal deal in their mind was Jefferson , #5 and #19 , and 20 mil in expiring contracts Brown and Ratliff.

Ainge would love to get JO but not at cost of Jefferson.

So if Lakers can dump Odom for a top 10 pick and an expiring contract the Lakers might be able to get KG. for Bynum, Brown , #19 , and whatever top 10 pick and expiring deal the Lakers get for Odom could cost them a futur #1 also.

I agree that they wouldn't give up Al Jeff just to get JO. But why would they want JO and Al Jeff together either? It's not like you can really run an offense where they're both posting up. I would think their games are too similar to really be a great front-court duo.

I'm thinking the C's have no real interest in JO at all. Pierce is still 29, they can wait another year on Al Jeff, I reckon.

the rumor is that Danny Ainge floated the rumor out there today to gauge fan reaction, like he did the original boston-Minny deal.

The fans reacted negatively apparently, because it looks like Ainge pulled out.

I wonder who put this rumor out?

If there is any truth to this, I say get John Paxson and his #9 on the phone, or Michael Jordan and his #8, both teams have young players, now all that is needed is an expiring like Ratliff, or a sign & trade of a player who could be taken off the books soon

90% of fans who responded to a Boston Globe poll wouldn't want to give up Jefferson for KG. Let alone JO.

Do you think they would give up a Green/West/Ratliff/#5 package for JO?

Not saying I'd do it, but since you seem to be the resident Celtics expert, I'm curious.
