There is a lot of interest, but nothing is imminent. Pacers have been trying to get LO and Bynum for JO - so we know they are on board - Chad Ford

My personal veiw - Most of you are expecting way too much for JO. Boston doesn't want to give up Al Jefferson and just get JO. JO's trade value is a lot lower than many of you realize. KG's is a lot higher
i was checking out a celtics forum and alot of the fans weren't big on the idea of trading jefferson and getting KG back, let alone JO.

If Conley drops to 5 and a legit prospect is available at 19 for Minny, then this should be a done deal.

Of course, we know about it...which makes it all that more unlikely...sigh...

Sources now say the Lakers are dealing directly with Minnesota and disagree about the involvement of the Pacers and a fourth team.
Maybe the Lakers can only bring themselves to deal with one ex-Celtic and not three. Doesn't matter. Minn., Indiana and Boston could work out the remainder of the deal without Laker input.

i'm hoping we expand a bit with boston and make them take back murphy in exchange for wally (2 years left on his deal).

Jefferson is about as good as Dwight Howard. No joke. One is a better scorer, the other a better rebounder and defender. Al should be an all-star next year. Why would they trade away a future ten-time all-star for KG for a few more years, much less JO?

KG is arguable because KG and Pierce together could probably do well in the East for a while but it's not like they're beating any legit West team any time soon.

Also, guys. I love JO but man, KG and JO are not even close. As JO and KG lose athleticism, KG will be the better player...I can see him being effective into his late 30s simply virtue to an intensity and natural basketball intelligence, on defense and offense.

For the love of God...why are we even interested in Odom...no retooling! Rebuild...get Bynum, who is the real deal. Get the 19 so we can pick up a shooter. Get Farmar.
Just how do you intend to match up salaries without Odom?

Having trouble believing the LA Times update claiming that the deal is just LA and Minny. Odom, Bynum, Brown and #19 have been floated as trade pieces for a while in the context of a JO to LA trade, so if Minny would be OK with that package for KG then I think something would've happened already. Minny would certainly prefer the Boston package -- perhaps the LA deal is the plan B since KG nixed going to Boston.

Ric Bucher is apparently reporting that Kobe has said he'll still demand a trade even if the Lakers do get Kevin Garnett.

At this point, I hope he gets what he's wishing for. If he thinks it's been tough in LA, wait until he gets somewhere that isn't totally enamored of him. Personally, I think they ought to trade him to the Nuggets.

    ...

    ...

And yes, I know that was horribly wrong of me to even say.

Bucher said on the B.S. report that Kobe wants out of LA...can't blame him, I wouldn't trust their front office anymore.

As for a no-Odom trade...you can do with Radmanovic or wait til July 1st and include Mihm or McKie. It is very possible.

Guess that means he wouldn't stay for JO either, then.

Suppose we should forget about a package from LA and start considering other destinations for JO. Not sure how bound we are by his preference though. If it's anything like the kind of influence KG and Kobe seem to have over trades, then we're screwed.

Otherwise, there's picks/young players/expiring contracts from Boston, or that Nene/Camby deal from Denver...

KG is a significantly better offensive (scoring, especially passing) player and rebounder, but J.O. is the better defender.

I could not disagree with you anymore than I do. KG is a much, much better defender. KG can actually guard players on-on-one. He can guard TD, Dirk and even players like McGrady. JO doesn't guard any of those players. JO is strictly a help defender

I'm to the point where I'm sick of talkin about it and just want Thursday to get here, or have the trade go down before then.
I was ready for Josh Smith to go to Indiana, but he went to the NBA. I am ready for him to come to Indiana once again.

Sportscenter just updated their trade report to say that the latest they hear is Minnesota would be getting the 5th and 19th pick.

Sportscenter ended with a proposal without Jefferson, but with #5 and #19 plus 20 mil in salary relief

Didn't see it, but I presume it featured Ratliff and Brown going Minny as the salary relief, plus a young player or two from Boston like Green and Telfair?

Ha is the deal dead already? Update

The owners of the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves have begun talks for a trade that would involve sending Kevin Garnett to the Lakers, league sources said today.
The talks turned into discussions about a four-way deal among the Lakers, Minnesota, Indiana and Boston, in which the Lakers would have gotten Garnett. However, the deal broke down, reportedly because the Celtics didn't like what they would have gotten, ending the four-way negotiations.

Not sure, just had the 2 1st rounders by Minnesota and Greenie reported the Wolves would also get 20 mil in relief.

But the LA times is calling the 4way dead now, so who even knows?! Hope draft night gets here soon

the rumor is that Danny Ainge floated the rumor out there today to gauge fan reaction, like he did the original boston-Minny deal.

The fans reacted negatively apparently, because it looks like Ainge pulled out.

As I predicted earlier in this thread, the L.A. Times was right, and ESPN is riding its tail. Chad Ford now says Boston backed out and it's only L.A. and Minnesota talking now.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2916217

If the Lakers are trying to get Kobe Bryant to change his mind about leaving, they're off to a good start.

The Los Angeles Times cited league sources on Monday saying that the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves are in discussions that could bring Kevin Garnett to Los Angeles.

Trade discussions initially involved the Lakers, Wolves, Pacers and a fourth team, and sources told ESPN and ESPN.com that that team was the Celtics. They would have gotten Jermaine O'Neal from the Pacers and sent young players to the Wolves. The Lakers would have gotten Garnett, while the Pacers would have landed Los Angeles forward Lamar Odom and center Andrew Bynum. Minnesota would also have acquired at least one of the teams' draft picks, possibly Boston's No. 5 in Thursday's draft.

Later on Monday, the Times reported that the deal in that form had fallen apart because the Celtics did not like their end of the deal. According to the newspaper, the Lakers and Timberwolves continued discussions, trying to broker a deal just between the two teams.

    Ford: Wolves hungry?

The Timberwolves will have to get enough in return to make this deal work, ESPN Insider's Chad Ford writes. He offers some possible scenarios. Blog

Sources told the Times, however, that Wolves general manager Kevin McHale is not thrilled with the idea of getting Odom and Bynum, even if they come with the Lakers' 19th pick.

Not surprised Boston balked. I'm sure LA and Minny devised a trade that featured Jefferson going to Minny like in the Boston/Minny trade talks, but in this scenario they'd only be getting JO back.

If Minny can be OK getting cap relief in Brown and Ratliff, a young player or two in Green and/or Telfair, and picks #19 and #5, then I think a deal can be made. Otherwise, time to try elsewhere.

No mention of Kobe still demanding a trade, though? That seems like the real deal breaker.

    UncleBuck has lost him mind.

Show me once when KG has defended somebody in the paint. He's a fine perimeter defender, but he's got nothing on JO in terms of owning the paint, protecting the rim, etc.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you
