Default Lakers/Minnesota/Pacers/possible 4th team in talks

    Wow this is huge

The owners of the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves have begun talks for a trade that would involve sending Kevin Garnett to the Lakers, league sources said Monday.

A multi-team trade discussion is underway involving the Lakers, Indiana, Minnesota and possibly a fourth team, with the Lakers getting Garnett and the Pacers getting Lamar Odom and teenage center Andrew Bynum from the Lakers. Another minor player will likely be added to make the deal work financially.

Jerry Buss and Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor spoke by phone for 20 minutes Friday. Buss reportedly ended the conversation by suggesting that Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak and Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale would continue the discussion Monday.

Such a move could address the concerns of Kobe Bryant, who has demanded to be traded for more than four weeks.

Bryant met with Kupchak for about an hour Friday, a day after Garnett rejected a trade that would have sent him to Boston.

Bryant did not step down from his desire to be traded. However, Kupchak, Buss and Lakers Coach Phil Jackson met later that day to discuss options based on the assumption they would still have Bryant, The Times has learned.

He can always opt out after the season.

I'm surprised it's taken this long for this option to be seriously addressed. Still, I ain't holding my breath.

For Minny, they get a star player for KG, not a bunch of role players and big contracts. JO doesn't have any leverage, and if he hates it, he can always opt out.

What does Minnesota allegedly get out of all of this outside of J.O.?

I think a more likely scenario is JO going to Boston.

but if indiana has proved anything its that its probably time to give up on building around JO. thats why i don't understand it. the twolves are in a better position to just scrap it and rebuild because they've got young talent in place and there are no expectations for them as an organization as even with KG they haven't been remotely good in three years.

thats why i don't understand it for JO.

but the boston idea is interesting...

    No way.

If the Timberwolves trade KG to the Lakers why in the world would they want Jermaine over Odom and Bynum? Why would they even deal KG if all they get is Jermaine?

Don't count on this ever happening.

unless boston is that 4th team and they're giving up a similar package/picks for JO and sending it to minnesota... that does seem to make sense.

The Boston idea is interesting, I agree. Water down their KG offer a bit and give that to us? But no, that doesn't add up because if they did that to get JO, we could just trade with them and wouldn't need Minn. or LA. Unless you believe they'd want Bynum/Odom?

If Boston is indeed the 4th team, I could see them sending the 5th pick to Minnesota along with someone else while we get Bynum and Odom.

This to me sounds more like wishful speculation then not.....I just cannot see what the TWolves would get to make them happy. JONeal isn't going to do that much better in Minny then he would do here. On top of that.....if Minny moves KG....they would be in the same boat as the Pacers.....rebuilding.

I wonder if there is any other sources that can confirm this outside of LA.

KG To L.A. Trade Talks Finally Arrive

I told you all a week ago there would be these 3 way deals and other BS coming out of LA. Why isn't this coming out of Indianapolis or Minnasota? I'll tell you why, becasue it isn't happining. The Lakers are getting very, very nervious and edgy due to all the bad publicity that Kobe is getting them, to counter that you will see articles just like this from the LA times and various other "reputable sources".

The PAcers are standing pat to the following deal:

Jermaine O'Neal & Troy Murphy to the Lakers for:

Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, Jordan Farmar, Kwame Brown and the 19th pick.

The Pacers have told the Lakers thats the deal and the only way that Bynum is left out is if the Lakers come up with a draft pick in the top 9 this year. So don't get your hopes up to high, I see the Pacers walking away and keeping O'Neal more then the Lakers getting him.

    KG to LA
    Odom/Bynum/5th pick/Diogu to Minnesota?
    JO to Boston
    Al Jefferson/Wally/19th pick to JO?

    Crazy idea.
