Default Pole Day at the Indy Motor Speedway - Pics

Surely someone here follows the Indy 500. Here are some of the pics I took this Saturday (May 12, 2007) for "Pole Day"
    -Bball

Drivers and teams prepare for their practice session:

    --------

Franchiti Sets the bar for the pole speed with this qualifying run:

    -----

The drivers pull in for photo ops after their initial qualifying attempt:

    Wheldon

    Marco Andretti

    Tony Kanana

    Danica prepares for her photo(s)

    Dixon

Dario Franchiti has wife Ashly Judd join him for some of his photos

    -----

How about another pic of Ashly?

    Is this too many?

    And then there's this one...

Long time (and now retired) IMS PA announcer Tom Carnegie makes an appearance

    ----

Teams debate whether they should attempt to re-qualify in hopes of the pole (or in some cases decide if they are ready to take their first attempt).

    Wheldon entering his car

    Helio prepares to hotlap

Helio is hoping for another kind of "Spiderman 3" this month

    The "Captain"

Danica takes a long walk to her car

Team AGR prepares to get Danica on the track

    Danica waits in her car

2006 winner Sam Hornish Jr gets ready to roll

    Helio starts to roll

    Helio rolls out

    -----

Team AGR push Kanan's car into the tech line for another shot at the pole

Helio returns to the pits after knocking Dario Franchiti off the pole and with only time left for Tony Kanan to take a shot at besting him.

Kanan gets out under the gun and runs 3 laps fast enough to take the pole from Helio but slows just enough on the last lap to lose it. Here Helio is seen talking to the media and over the IMS PA with his $100,000.00 pole winner award

Thanks Bball. Not a big race fan, but I did enjoy pole days when I lived in Indy.

We were talking about Carnegie at dinner. I sarcastically said about his replacement Dave Calabro "You know in 40 years we'll be hearing about how he's a living legend" to which Kegboy replied "He needs to quit his speedway job to concentrate on fixing what's going on at Channel 13."

Is Calabro officially 'the' replacement? Bob Jenkins is getting a lot of mic time himself. I guess the one that gets to call the start of the race would be the one tagged as the 'main' guy.
