    JO Misses Practice

O'Neal sits out practice with injured eye

    Associated Press
    May 20, 2004

Jermaine O'Neal sat out the Indiana Pacers' practice today to rest his injured left eye, but plans to play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday.

O'Neal watched practice in street clothes and sunglasses and was scheduled to visit an eye doctor later today.

"There's no way I'm not going to play Saturday," O'Neal said.

His eye was injured on perhaps his biggest play of Tuesday's series-clinching win over Miami in Game 6.

With the Pacers clinging to a four-point lead with about one minute to play, O'Neal emphatically blocked a dunk attempt by Miami's Caron Butler. Butler inadvertently poked O'Neal in the eye on the play.

O'Neal's eye was still puffy and red on today, but he said he was feeling much better and would wear tinted goggles in Saturday's Game 1 if necessary.

Forward Jonathan Bender also missed practice with what Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said was an injured foot. Guard Fred Jones appears ready after missing the last two playoffs games with a strained left shoulder.

Starting center Jeff Foster also had a sore back, but all three are expected to play on Saturday.

    No worries...

Now seeing JO with braids, a head band and tinted glasses...that is something else

Man, I think he's faking. If he'd really been smacked in the face like that, deliberately, by the offensive player, a foul would have been called.

    He's going for media sympathy.

So since no foul was called, I really didn't see Butler stick his fingers in JO's eye...it was just an optical illusion?

Can't you just picture JO in an old pair of "Rec-Specs"?

DAMN!!! Why is Bender always hurt. At least our whole team will be available Saturday even if they aren't 100%.

Obviously. Like any good games by Eastern Conference teams or like any article saying the Lakers might not win the championship.

See, since I took Hooked On David Stern, my enjoyment of the NBA has increased a thousandfold ...

    Late Breaking Update!!!

Later in the day Coach Carlisle expanded on the foot injury to Bender by saying, "JB apparently had his foot run over by a car when he was temporarily stunned by its headlights.".

Boy it doesn't take much for JB to get hurt , I really have my doubts if he can play a majority of 1 season without getting hurt.

Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

What? Was it an ugly car or something?

"Deer caught in the headlights" joke. Pretty clever, Tom.

    GOOD NEWS EVERY ONE!

Jermaine says his eye is ok. He won't wear goggles and he says it won't affect him
