Default Say we get a pick in the draft- Who would you want?

If we end up with a top ten pick in this draft say the 7-10 range who would you ideally want for our team? As much as I love Jermaine I wouldn't mind trying to get someone that could solidify our front court with Ike and then trade him to get a stud 1 or 2 guard and a pick.

I guy I like to have would be Roy Hibbert. I know he lacks some athleticism but he has improved greatly over three years and supposedly has a great work ethic. He would definitely add some size and shot blocking ability and we would finally have a 5 that could actually score in the half court set.

Hibbert, Brewer, Law are probably my top three saying we pick in the 7-10 range.

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

I have seen three players consistently on this board
    Hibbert
    Law
    Conley

If Conley jumps and he is available DW or Lb would have to be Billy Knight to pass. But the most under rated player in this draft is Brewer. I really think this kid fits well here. he packed Oden last night. He is Prince but better by a long shot. Face it we have not had that defensive edge since Artest left. And with Sjax gone we need a perimeter defender. If not him then grad Strawberry in the second round or Ron Lewis (next Redd anybody).

    Definitely, Mike Conley Jr.

He reminds me a lot of Devin Harris.

If Conley comes out and actually slips as far as predicted by NBADraft.net, then you take him.

Maybe Hibbert, but I'd look to trade him for an SG/PG (if this is allowed by trade rules restricting the first round picks you can trade in successive years - is a player drafted still a pick before signed and under the no-trade window? what about protected picks, can the Pacers give one up when they might lose the next one?)

Law is a reach. You trade down to get him.

You guys know more then I do.....but any thoughts on Corey Brewer?

Is he a prototypical SF ( a la Granger ) that can be shoe-horned into different positions but should primarily play SF?

    or

Does he have the size, speed, skills to play the SG spot as well?

I've read that he's one of the best perimter defenders coming out of college ( which we all know that we need ).

Are there any other Guards that can actually play defense that we should be interested?

One more thing....I thought I read some 82games article or read it here before.....but of the type of players that come out of college ( PG, SG, SF, PF, C ) isn't there a certain position that will yield a solid player as opposed to a "dud"?

I know that we should never draft for position ( and I'm not suggesting that we do )....but I've always thought that it was safer to draft a SG and SF...as opposed to a PG, PF or Center.

Brewer will play the 2 in the NBA.

He's not going to be strong enough to handle the 3s in the league, and he's a lot better out on the perimeter offensively and defensively.

    Conley, followed by Law.

I will vomit in my mouth if we draft Noah or Brewer.

And God help TPTB if they draft another frontcourt player, especially a SF.

I'm wouldn't put that beyond TPTB.

To bolster Naptown Seth's argument to forget about the draft pick and go for the Playoffs......that's one of the reasons why we may want to forget about this year's draft simply cuz there are too many SF/PF/C that are slated for the top 10 and not enough Guards that are truly worthy of being a top 10 player. If Conley or Brewer is picked before we pick.....assuming that Law is too high of a pick for thet 10th spot.........the only thing we can do is to trade down ( which I wouldn't be opposed to doing ).

Billy Knight is supposed to be a disciple of Donnie's right?

I'd take guys in this order:

    Conley (I don't think he's coming out.)
    Brewer
Hibbert (I'm not actually sure who I'd pick first between these two)
    Law
    Tywon Lawson

I might pick Law around 10th, but if both are available I'd consider trading down a few spots and seeing which PG you wind up with.

Didn't ATL GM Billy Knight work for the Pacers under the tutelage of Donnie Walsh?

I made that comment in reference to the idea that the Pacers might draft a SF for the 3rd year in a row.

i don't mind a front court player if it is someone like hibbert. ultimately it depends on what happens with JO. but definitely conley if he falls that far, maybe law although seth is right that is a bit of a stretch (at the 7-10 spot that is).

outside of the 7-10 people i'd think about or look at... jeff green and maybe marcus williams (who had a bad tourney game but has demonstrated a lot of promise over his two years)
    This is the darkest timeline.

If Oden falls to tenth we should take him.

I'm pretty sure Jeff Green will be gone by pick 10. The Blazers are in bad need of a small forward and he fits the bill.

Don't overlook Spencer Hawes. The kid is a pretty polished center for an 18 year old. He's not getting a lot of attention because UW struggled and isn't good at using it's interior players. Most people see white college 7-footers and think stiff but Hawes is anything but that. I've seen him in person and he's already got an NBA skillset with some impressive offensive moves on the block. His footwork is very smooth, shows great coordination and soft hands. DraftExpress says "Offensively, we have not seen a more polished center at the collegiate level in recent memory." I agree with this. A legit center that can be a scoring force in the paint will have a huge impact in the NBA.

He needs to gain strength and add weight but he's got the frame to mature physically in the next few years.

Getting him in the 7-10 range will look like an absolute steal in couple seasons. Oh, and I'm saying all this as a die-hard Oregon Duck fan that hates all things Huskie. I just cant ignore talent though.

Conley if he comes out and is there. I like Hibbert and think he would look good next to JO or Murphy & Ike if JO is not here.

Great, now I can have nightmares about that happening. TPTB on deck at 9 and then "with the 8 pick the (insert D-bag team here) take Mike Conley".

I would take any of the players and be very happy:
    Conley
    Law
    Hibbert
    Brewer

Any of those guys adjust needs on our current roster. Hibbert would provide us a big center to work with. Conley or Law could provide us with consistent guard play or Brewer could provide us with great perimeter defense and offense.

I wish Brewer could fall to us, but I don't think he's going to fall that far.

I agree that it will be awful if the pacers pick Sanjaya Noah.

One guy I think that could make them better is Aaron Brooks. If they could maneuver into pick in the 20-25 range he'll be available, and I think he'd be a better option at PG than they currently have. Much better.

Assuming we do have a draft pick and its towards the bottom of the lottery we would do very well if Brewer is there.I don't think he will be though.

I think the guy is a stud. All around hes a very nice offensive player, he will need to improve his ball handling on this level but be scores big points with me because of his ability to defend.I think he can defend both guard spots.

Ha! I was thinking that as well. He might even fall to the 2nd round. I'm interested to see who all comes out as well. Law may fall.
Collison from Ucla may be out there.
    James from Marquette might leave.
I would love to have Graves from Butler if he leaves now that Lickliter is gone
    Crittenton from GT
    Lawson UNC
Neitzel would be nice from MSU but will probably stay
    A healthy Steele from Bama

It just all depends on if we can get a pick, where it's at, and who comes out!

Spending any pick on AJ Graves would be an awful decision. Great college player, awful pro.
