    Default Scot Pollard during Cavs/Pacers game: "Hey kids, do drugs."

    Pollard apologizes for on-air remarkAssociated Press

    CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Cavaliers center Scot Pollard looked into the camera during a recent game and said, "Hey kids, do drugs."

    Pollard was sitting on the bench in street clothes when he made the remark during a 20-second timeout Sunday against Indiana. The Cavaliers didn't find it funny.

    "We have spoken with Scot and certainly do not condone his actions," general manager Danny Ferry said in a statement Wednesday. "He regrets his mistake, using inappropriate humor, particularly when he has always been very involved in the community, projecting positive messages to our youth. We will handle the issue internally."

    "It was a bad joke," Pollard said in Thursday editions of The Plain Dealer. "That's all it boils down to. There are a number of things people could say about it, but it just turned out it was a bad joke. Obviously, I don't believe that."

    Pollard, who has played in only 17 games this season, was not available Thursday. He would be at practice Friday, the team said.

    Everyone has a right to make a mistake. Imagine if all of our comments went on national TV.

    Certainly our youth can handle it, particularly since they are smart enough to know he was joking. His comment will not influence anyone.

    Pretty funny, though.

    I noticed it when it happened.

    The camera was just following him around while the TV guys were making some comments regarding Scot. He finally just looked at the camera and was like "What?!" - and then blurted out the "Hey kids - do drugs!".

    I laughed.

    Drats!! You beat me to it.
    Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
    Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
    Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
    Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
    And life itself, rushing over me
    Life itself, the wind in black elms,
    Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

    I'm not sure how the Cavaliers can function with off court distractions like this.

    I think it's interesting that all of the players that were released or traded over the past couple of summers went to winning situations. Some part of me thinks that TPTB look after the guys they like and move them to winning teams on purpose or talk them up to teams that can turn it around.

    James Jones = Phoenix
    Croshere and Johnson = Dallas
    Freddie = Toronto
    Pollard = Cavs

    Not bad for the former P's.

    OH - and yes I found the Pollard comment at once totally inappropriate and funny as hell.

    I heard his remarks and thought he was funny, but I also knew he'd take some heat for it and told my wife as much soon after. You know he wasn't serious. It's just not Scott's way to promote drug use to kids. He just said something off color because he suddenly found the camera on him. So, he thought he'd try to be funny only it backfired on him.
