Post Jake "The Snake" calls it a career

(March 2, 2007) -- NFL Network's Adam Schefter has learned Denver Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer is expected to announce his retirement.

Earlier today, it had been reported that the Broncos agreed to terms on a trade that would send Plummer to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. That trade is expected to be nullified due to Plummer's decision to retire.

Plummer has played 10 seasons in the NFL. A second-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 1997, he played six seasons in Arizona before signing with Denver in 2003. He led the Broncos to the 2005 AFC Championship Game, but was replaced as the starter late in the 2006 season by rookie Jay Cutler.

Obviously he read my post about teams going after retired QBs when their starter gets hurt.

He'll be back. He only 'retired' to stick it to the Broncos for trading him. Not to mention, Tampa isn't exactly the best place to go.

Maybe - but unless there's something about NFL contracts that I don't know about, it'll be at least another season and maybe more since Denver still "owns" him for the duration of his deal.

They will probably release him. Denver would have to pay him the duration of his contract if they kept him on the books.

It looks like he'll still go to Tampa but for a conditional pick next year. So the Broncos still unload his contract but he if really retires they won't get any compensation (but they can go after bonus money).

He didn't retire because he was traded, he's miffed that he didn't get released or traded to the team of his choosing. Maybe he can persuade the Bucs to help him out now.

Yeah the trade did indeed go through however ESPN is reporting he has filed the paper work for retirement.

    Not if he doesn't report.
