Not bad - seen better but I've sure seen worse.

    My Peyton skit rankings:

    1) Kids playing football
    2) Coffee on the porch (don't ask me why but I thought it was pretty funny)
    3) Opening monologue (not a skit but the Mom part was good)
    4) ESPN tourney pool
    5) Zoo man talk show
    6) Dinner Party
    7) Basketball dance (thought they let the dude dance too long - 15 seconds would have been enough)
    8) Meatloaf - didn't do it for me - he should have flushed at the end with a, "And it's a great way to discourage tailgaters"
    9) Monster with rock - did even less for me - no action, no punch line

If I missed one that must be 10 though I don't think anything could be more forgettable than the monster one.

1-3 were very good, 4-7 were solid - I could rank those 4a-d - and 8-9 didn't do much for me.

Can't believe on the news this morning they've gotten comments from parents thinking it wasn't suitable for kids. Uh, duh. SNL - a family show.

I'd like someone to explain to me just how that monster with a rock thing was supposed to be funny. If that was one of the ten best skits out of the 40 they gave him I'd hate to see what the other ones were like.

As for the basketball dance, yes DK was right, the coach did dance too long, but it still almost made me wet my pants.

Manning gets laughs as host of 'SNL'

Sun Mar 25, 7:52 AM ET

In this photo released by NBC, 'Saturday Night Live' cast member Jason Sudeikis, right, joins Super Bowl MVP Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, center, and 'American Idol' winner Carrie Underwood on the set of 'Saturday Night Live' in New York, Thursday, March 22, 2007. They taped a spot promoting the Saturday, March 24 telecast. (AP Photo/NBC, Dana Edelson)

    NEW YORK -
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning used his "Saturday Night Live" monologue to poke a little fun at his mother.

With his immediate family in the audience, the Super Bowl MVP introduced his father, Archie, who was a star NFL quarterback for 14 years, saying "he taught me everything I know."

He then introduced his brother, Eli — the
New York Giants starting quarterback — before asking his mother, Olivia, to stand up during the live television broadcast on NBC.

"She never made it to the NFL," Manning said, feigning disgust. "Didn't have what it took. Got cut by the Dolphins, tried Canada for a bit. She's a real disappointment for all of us."

The cameras then switched to the Manning clan sitting in their seats, laughing.

Following Manning's monologue, the scene switched to a filmed segment in which Manning is shown coaching a group of children.

But unlike his straight-laced image, the segment depicts Manning making fun of the children as they make mistakes, screaming at a boy at one point, "I can't even look at you!"

Manning later demonstrates to the kids how to break into a car and arranges for one boy to have his leg tattooed.

Before Saturday's show, Manning said he was a bit nervous about hosting and appearing in comedy routines on live television. But sports figures have long been a staple of "Saturday Night Live."

Manning said he's been a fan of the show and remembers seeing
New York Yankees star Derek Jeter dress up as a woman, and former NBA star Michael Jordan reminding himself that he was good enough and that people liked him.

the show was terrible but no fault of peyton's, in fact, i honestly enjoyed peyton more than i did any of the cast. SNL has always gone thru periods of not being funny but its been a number of years since they had a show that was funny from start to finish. the united way was hilarious, the porch had moments... SNL over the years has used the same film/actor supposed to do something/does not do it while film rolling premise about 10 times and it has never been funny. the dancing sketch annoyed me (mostly for reasons mentioned but ultimately it was just a vehicle to get peyton to dance and frankly there could ahve been an infinitely better skit in which to do that). so peyton good, SNL bad.
    This is the darkest timeline.

Did you just not get it?

When I see a football game with friends, someone invariably keeps yelling at the quarterback "THROW THE ROCK!!! THROW THE ROCK!!!!"

I thought the skit was funny as hell.

I hear that plenty with basketball (well, "shoot the rock") but never in football.

It might have helped if I'd known it was supposed to be a takeoff on 300, but I didn't. In my defense Kegboy knew it was and even he said it wasn't funny.

Are you being serious or sarcastic? I've never heard that before in my life. Nor have I heard anyone even yelling "Throw the ball!!!" at the QB. It's typically dead quiet at the game at that point and at bars and the like I've never heard it either.

I HAVE heard the ball called 'the rock' in basketball but it still isn't used in that context.

I thought the skit was funny as hell.
Must be a 'coast' thing... unless you are being sarcastic.

At least your explanation helps it make some sense.

I'm not endorsing the skit, but the joke was Payton Manning, who makes a living throwing things, couldn't throw a rock. I don't know what the kids are calling footballs these days.
"They could turn out to be only innocent mathematicians, I suppose," muttered Woevre's section officer, de Decker.

"'Only.'" Woevre was amused. "Someday you'll explain to me how that's possible. Seeing that, on the face of it, all mathematics leads, doesn't it, sooner or later, to some kind of human suffering."

So why'd they rename him "Mitch" (or whatever it was)? It was 'Mitch' that couldn't throw the rock, not Peyton.

LA's description was funnier. It had to be explained but at least it made sense and there was a joke there.

I grew up in Indianapolis and even my little league football coaches called the football "the rock".

I guess I'm the only one that thought it was funny.

Just think, I will live out my days having experienced just *that* much more joy than the rest of you.
