    Default Steve Francis

The Knicks are probably going to buyout his contract.

If his knee can hold up, is this someone the Pacers should be interested in?

I'd give him a one year contract and see what happens. 50% of Steve Francis is better than any of the current backup PG's.

Hell, why not? Could he really be much worse than our current starting backcourt?

But only to a reasonable deal. Knee problems are often chronic, so it's hard to tell how much he has left in the tank.

Another thing to consider........it is amazing how a player's health can improve when given a better situation. I for one would love to give the man a try. He is someone who can create his own offense, which we severely lack. I don't know if he would fit well into our High School style of play though.

I wish Carlisle would be the first move made, but we would almost have to totally rebuild again to change our style.

At this point, for a one year trial contract, I'm game. If he's truly "crippled", well, he'll be playing for a coach who likes PGs who can shoot and gets the most out of less.

Why not? It's not like Francis signed to the minimum for a year is gonna hurt us.

I say why not as well. This guy was an All-Star.

I would get him if possible. Even on a bad leg he's faster than this team is. Has to be an upgrade..
But an hour or so later, Hibbert wrote on his Twitter account: "Love this coach [and] I love this team. We can go far this year if we play like that. 2night we played our hearts out. Just didn't get the win."

There are 35 other guys also better than Tinsley and without the "issues" of Steve Francis.

They are low risk like Francis, but not high reward.

With Jamal Crawford potentially missing the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his right ankle, I'm not so sure the Knicks are going to jump at buying out Steve's contract.

I posted this a month ago, before the latest incident:

starting PGs who are better than Tins, in no particular order:

    G Arenas
    D Williams
    TJ Ford
    Mike Bibby
    Tony Parker
    Steve Nash
    Andre Miller
    Jameer Nelson
    Chris Paul
    Stephon Marbury
    Jason Kidd
    Mo Williams
    Mike James
    Jason Williams
    Shaun Livingston
    Baron Davis
    Chauncey Billups
    Allen Iverson
    Devin Harris
    Raymond Felton
    Delonte West
    Kirk Hinrich
    Jarrett Jack
    Smush Parker
Rafer Alston (You might quibble with Rafer Alston. He and JT are about equivalent.)

Backup PGs who are ALSO better than Tins
    Brevin Knight
    Chris Duhon
    Steve Blake
    Sam Cassell
    Damon Stoudamire
    Bobby Jackson
    Jose Calderon

These guys are young and unproven but are almost a lead-pipe lock to be better than Jamaal when given the playing time:

    Marcus Williams
    Jordan Farmar
    Sergio Rodriguez

    Total: 35.

    Leaving this:

Starting PGs that Tins is better than:
    Eric Snow/Daniel Gibson
    Ty Lue/Speedy Claxton

I think based upon recent play that Rajan Rondo might make it an even 36 better than JT. I'll give JT the benefit of the doubt over Nate Robinson, Chucky Atkins, Earl Watson and Kyle Lowry, but you could call them #37,#38, #39, and #40 if you wish.

On talent, Francis is obviously in the 35 too.

After the next draft, we might be over 40 on the better-than-Jamaal list.

I said 2-3 months ago that if he is bought out, it doesnt hurt us AT ALL. To give him a 1 year deal at the minimum, no risk at all. He starts some problems you cut him right there, he is going to be playing for another contract and if he gives us 70% of the old Stevie Franchise you know its better then what any PG on our roster right now gives us.

But like RCarey says I doubt he is going to get cut now that JCraw is hurt.

    Sure...why not?

Not like we can get any worse. If anything...we can have one of the worst defensive backcourts in the league when Carlisle plays both Tinsley and Francis on the court at the same time ( cuz you know he will do it ).
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

Francis is better than Tinsley in nearly every facet of the game. He can play both guard positions well, in fact a starting backcourt of Franchise and Marquis Daniels would work very well. If he becomes available, the team would be stupid not to make a play for his services.

Crawford's done. They won't buy him out now unless they really want Lil Nate starting.

    Who would we cut? McCloud?

I can't believe that I have been worn down as a fan to the point of thinking Steve Francis as PG of the Pacers is a very good idea.

Tins is clearly better than all of the PGs I bolded.

Francis would be perfectly suited for Rick's system, offensively.

The question is, with his knee, would he be an upgrade over Tinsley defensively?

If yes, its a no-brainer if the Knicks buy him out and he clears waivers (which should be automatic if he were to be bought-out.)
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Francis and his knee are still bothering him. He said it himself. No need to bring in an injured PG.
