Default The newest Trailblazer: Fred Jones

The Portland Trail Blazers and Raptors have agreed in principle on a trade sending Juan Dixon to Toronto for Fred Jones in a swap of backup guards, ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported.

Dixon, 28, in his fifth NBA season, is averaging 8.9 points per game for the Blazers. Jones, also in his fifth year, is averaging 7.6 points.

That trade seems rather....boring.....I hate slow trade-deadline days.

I'm guessing the Blazers traded Dixon for a younger quicker player who has a slightly longer contract.

Interesting to see these X-PACERS being moved around. Freddie in Portland, that has to suck, moving again. Late last year I was on my way to Toronto for work via Phoenix and Freddie was on the same flight as me. I remember thinking about how getting traded and moving from city to city has to be tough, and now he is on his way to Portland. Good luck Freddie, at least they have a good coach there.

That's his hometown, so I'm sure he's fine with it.

One thing I forgot.....Freddie used to play for Oregon State before we took picked him up...maybe this was part of a PR move as well for the Portland Area fans?

Good news for my fantasy team - Mo Pete could get more minutes.

He played for Oregon, not Oregon State. I do agree however that it could have Oregon fans get excited about trailblazer basketball.
I was ready for Josh Smith to go to Indiana, but he went to the NBA. I am ready for him to come to Indiana once again.

You mean, from the 0 minutes Freddie was taking from him?

Once again all of this proves how good Rick Carlisle is at using players correctly and getting the most out of them.

He was made a starter in Toronto. PT wasn't the issue, what he did with it was.

And you can't blast Toronto for the results, look where they are now. I liked Fred and promoted him when a lot of fans still overlooked his game, but at the same time you could see him hit his limitations in his final season in Indy. He has the 3 ball and a hard drive to the right that can result in a dunk if you don't close him out strong. But passing and ball protection are weakness.

Overall talent-wise I'd put him on par with Travis Best. Slightly different games, but both were tweener scoring PG types that struggled to distribute the ball well.

As mentioned, the X-Pacers roster doesn't really blow you away, does it.
AJ, Croshere, Fred, Peja, and even Ron's continued hijinx and desire to shoot more than he should.

But some think Rick's the problem with the Pacers. Still waiting for Saras to "blow up" in that high tempo Warriors system that fits his playing style so much better than Rick's system did.

BTW, 37.5 FG, 33 3pt, 14 mpg in 13 of 15 possible games played. And roughly 6 assists if he was getting 32 minutes, so not so great as a PG that he demands PT in spite of bad shooting and bad defense.

Even Jackson and Al are basically doing exactly the same thing with the Warriors. Few Pacers leave and get better someplace else, especially in the last few years. As a James Jones fan I have to admit that he didn't take off with the Suns like it appeared he might.

Didn't Fred Jones play college ball with Luke Ridnour? Maybe they can get Luke Jackson to come over as well and get back together for a reunion of the Mighty Ducks!
