Default Scottie Pippen plans NBA comeback

    Pippen may make comeback
    Friday, Feb 16, 2007 10:00 am EST

It's not quite the impact of Michael Jordan's famous return to basketball in 1995, but Scottie Pippen is seriously considering a comeback and hopes to play for a contending team in this season's playoffs.

Pippen, who turned 41 on Sept. 25, says he's in better condition and health than at any time in the last five years. And in the Eastern Conference, his veteran presence could change the balance of power and be a major influence in the playoffs.

So, what he is saying is that ... he's broke or that he has conceived another 8 kids, so he needs more $$$ to pay his alimony, oh waite ... wasn't he one of the guys that was "lacklustre" about paying alimony? .

Seriously, fabulous player in the 90's ... he shouldn't screw up what name he has build.

I'd give him a look if he did decide to make a comeback. He can play some SG for us and have mentor Granger and Williams while he was here.

Watch the Heat or Pistons pick him up.

I think that while Pippen can not play to his old status he can still be a lot better than some of the backups on these teams.

I would enjoy seeing Pippen play again. He was a great player to watch. He may not be a star anymore but I think he can still help a team win.

I wouldn't be completely opposed of picking him up. Nice veteran presence to have on your team.

Whoever he goes to, it's gonna be a sideshow. Since we've had our fair share of those, I don't want him here. Plus he was a Bull. And he's washed up.

That's what Houston thought many many years ago and their fans still curse him.

Teams to be interested in Pippen:

    - Pistons
Their bench at the 1-2-3 is Hunter, Murray, Delfino, and Dupree. Pippen would give them a good solid veteran.
    - Heat
I don't think they need him at all with Payton, Kapono, Jones, and Posey but I would be suprised if the Heat didn't show interest in him.
    - Spurs
They really need a good athlete on the perminter but would they pass up a very fresh Scottie Pippen? I doubt it.
    - Lakers
They are not a championship team but would Phil Jackson want Pippen anyway? Could he convience him that playing for him in the Triangle is the right thing to do?

He was so, so, so bad when he last played, why would anybody want him? He says he's "healthy", but there's no way he's in NBA shape. He was a bad locker room presence before, why would he better now? Just cause he's old?

I'd take Toni Kukoc before I took Scottie, which is really saying something. At least you could stand Toni in a corner and let him shoot 3's. Probably wouldn't make them, but it'd still be better than watching Pippen get circles run around him.

The sad thing is, the Pistons could really use a guy with Pippen's skill set.

There's no way he's still in NBA shape though, so no point in thinking about it. I doubt a team even gives him a call.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

I would not mind hiring him as a player coach for Danny though.

He'll go to the Cavs...Larry Hughes wants out, Scottie talks him out of it by mentoring him.

Haha...I was going to make a "coach" joke here, but felt that would be inappropriate. RIP Red.

Yeah but some say that those guys could use a veteran mentor. Who better than Scottie Pippen?

Only I don't see room for Pippen on this team. Nor do I think he would want to come here to play at this point in his life.

I just saw Mutombo played over twenty minutes in a game, if he can do it, why can't Scottie (or even Shawn Kemp)?

He will go to the Heat, just like every other ring-chasing old player. He specified that he wants a title-contending team in a warm-weather city and living in South Florida is like still being half retired. Fine with me, I really dislike Scotty.

Seriously, I am afraid that the Pistons will be the only cold-weather team that will really compete for the forseeable future. Cold weather cities will have to do it through the draft because free agents demand temps that never fall below 55. Basketball players are a bunch of weather wimps!

shawn hasn't been able to play in the NBA for quite some time and he was a talented dunker but anymore he needs a dealer and some special herbs to get high.

scottie indicated that his first choice is probably miami (altho i have no idea why they'd want him since they just brought eddie jones back in). cleveland seems to be the best fit for him. give some vet leadership and championship experience to play with lebron.

i can't imagine him going to the pistons or really the lakers. dallas doesn't need him. phoenix is another possibility. he could be the backup PG they're looking for PLUS playoff/championship experience.

as far as the pacers, i see the potential for him to be a mentor to danny and shawne, even rawle. and his point ability could help clear up our PG situation (getting pippen in with quis could be interesting). but other than another armstrong-like player/coach, i don't know why we would do that PLUS pippen said when discussing teams he could play for:

"I'd like an opportunity to help a team contend for a championship," Pippen said. "I'd like to go play with Shaq. That would be the ideal place. He's probably the best in the game, he and Dwyane Wade. Teams in the East still are bunched up, but [the Pistons and the Heat] will be fighting it out in the Eastern finals.

"I don't see anyone really a threat to them. Indiana is going in another direction, the Bulls still are lacking that inside presence."

    http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/cs-070216smith,1,3885314.column?coll=cs-bulls-headlines','201'
so i don't see that happening.
