Thread: the best guard in the state of Indiana is named

Default the best guard in the state of Indiana is named

    Eric Gordon.

OK, may the jump to the NBA is too huge to extrapolate, but if you watched the game on ESPN2 late night you saw an Iverson-like performance, with some extra altitude.

Can't wait to see him in Bloomington, if only for a year.

    I prefer Jordanesque to Iverson-like

I watched the game....I still cannot believe how he just flat EXPLODES to the rim. I would love to hear what MJ had to say about him...I mean what he had to say privately. And the one 3 I particularly remember was well beyond NBA 3 range.

Oh if he'd only stay in college for more than a year...

(Oh if only he'd pick MICHIGAN over IU or Illinois )

The kid is amazing... I was at the game last night, it was huge.

Gordon has the personality to go along with his skills. I go to school with him, and you never hear him talk himself up, he's pretty modest about himself.

Damn! Pacers need to tank next year, that kid looks incredible. IU is going to see him for one year period. Thanks for the link.

I don't know if you are being serious - but he's a high school player - he's not the best guard in the state of Indiana.

And no I didn't see him play last night

He would start at the two for this Pacers team no problem.

I don't believe that for a second. He's never played a college game, let alone played in the NBA.

Many of you are way underestimating the NBA talent level.

I have not seen him play, but that doesn't matter. Many, many players look like the next MJ in HS. He's probably NBA material, but y'all are getting way ahead of yourselves.

Is he better than Lebron when James was in H.S.

Oh, no, we get rid of the NBA vs euro-ball debate, and now comes the NBA vs high school debate.

I'm sure Gordon would bring fire, emotion, team play, leadership, excitment and passing to the game but I have to believe that there is a difference between the two leagues.

FWIW, ESPN's announcers were saying they had never seen anyone like him in H.S. He is extremely incredible and cannot be appreciated until you see him in person. I have seen all of the recently great Indiana H.S. talents play several times, MvRoberts, Oden, Conley and Gordon and Gordon has impressed me the most by far. (And yes I was saying this waaaaaay before he committed to IU).

My attitude about the kid is the same with all H.S. players. (And I even graduated from North Central) Wake me up when they get to the NBA - because until then I really don't care.

That's fair enough, but I think this kid is a sure fire stud at any level. His fire and passion is incredible and when you combine with the smoothest three point stroke around (He is a far better shooter than Lebron was in H.S.) and a freakish athleticism (Anybody else seen his dunk on youtube that he had in Hinkle? INCREDIBLE). and you have a sure fire NBA talent IMO. He would be a top 5 pick in this year's ridiculous draft by most accounts.

don't see how you can possibly have an opinion on the matter unless you have seen the kid play...

    watching him.

Not saying he can't be the next DWade, but he is an undersized shooting guard at 6' 4" and it is simply not as easy to physically dominate the much stronger, longer and quicker players in the NBA. Until he plays against tougher competition, a smallish shooting guard does not deserve the throne IMO. I don't care what he looks like against less physically developed competition. He could be the next Shawn Respert.

I thought he was 6'3" and at that height unless he's a freakish athlete he's going to have to play point guard in the NBA.

Travis Best once scored 100 points in a high school game.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

He is 6'4" which is plenty big for a NBA guard. Especially considering MJ was much close to 6'4" than 6'6". Also he has something between a 42 and 45 inch vertical.

If you want him to be Allen Iverson or Ben Gordon, maybe. But he's going to be consistently overmatched by taller players. Fred Jones had an impressive vertical and a 7'1" wingspan, and the same thing happened to him.

Not true. If so, MJ wouldn't have been so effective playing the 3 after he'd lost his athleticism.
