Post KL vote, Ronny Turiaf, F to F/C

With a season-ending injury to Chris Mihm and multiple injuries to Kwame Brown, Andrew Bynam backed by Ronny Turiaf has been the Laker’s center rotation for a month or so.

A recent foxsports report described the Laker rotation and his role as the ONLY current backup center: ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Smush Parker, Shooting guard Kobe Bryant, Small forward Vladimir Radmanovic, Power forward Lamar Odom, Center Andrew Bynum. Bench -- Center Ronny Turiaf, Guard Jordan Farmar, Forward Maurice Evans, Guard Sasha Vujacic, Guard Shammond Williams.

USA Today also mention Turiaf’s role in the injury update on Kwame Brown:
    Jan. 16, 2007 - 1:27 a.m. ET
Andrew Bynum and Ronny Turiaf have done a good job replacing [Kwame] Brown in the middle the past few weeks.

PD member and LA beatwriter Eric Pincus describes the situation:
Already without center Chris Mihm for the season, the Lakers are down to just one available true center . . . second-year player Andrew Bynum... Though Bynum seems the logical choice to replace Brown in the starting lineup, Coach Phil Jackson intimated that he may go with forward Ronny Turiaf in his stead.

Turiaf is listed at 6’10” 249, and a center/forward on at least two sites, rotoworld and USA Today:

    Rotoworld

Their articles: Phil Jackson is unsure who will start while center Kwame Brown is expected to miss at least a week with a severely sprained ankle.
"I'm not sure Andrew's (Bynum) quite ready to step into that role on a full-time level," Jackson said. "I won't make that decision until I kind of check out how I feel about that. I might keep Andrew off the bench and use Ronny as the starter." The two will split time, but both will have more value than when Brown is healthy.

Unhappy with his centers' defensive efforts in Wednesday's loss to the Hornets, coach Phil Jackson is considering starting Ronny Turiaf at center against the Hawks. While Andrew Bynum has lost most of his value, this could be a short-term blow to Kwame Brown as well. Turiaf could eventually be worth owning at some point this season, but Phil is looking for defense. Kwame Brown is currently the only Lakers center with value.

Note: Jackson chose Bynam to start, not Turiaf.

His online bio describes his role:

He primarily plays power forward, but also sees playing time at center, particularly when the Lakers' regular centers are injured or in foul trouble.

Will reserve my vote on this till tonight, I am not sure, I have a feeling that it will be a very mild and rare occassion he will really play the 5 and I'm simply not sure that justifies a change.
