On behalf of the odd 50-75 people frequently downloading these recordings, I thank you wholeheartedly

You are a gem to those that do not always have time to tune in or live in places where they are to be sleeping (or working) at that time.

    thanks"!"

I haven't said "thank you" in too long of a time myself.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, MagicRat!

I don't live in IN. And although I do have Internet service at home, it's still tough for me to get online (time permitted but most likely the difficulty stems from the Mrs. harpin' on me for not spending non-game time w/her; she'll "allow" me to watch Pacers/Colts games, but anything else is pretty much off limits. )

Being able to catch the show from the office the next day is a very nice treat!

    So, thanks a million!

I've started just assuming this will arrive at this point. I've turned soft thanks to your effort MR. I almost always find myself not able to listen to the show anymore, and I really love listening to it.

For people critical of some of RC's methods with players this show is very enlightening as guest Chuck Daly discusses why he finally got out and what some of the reality of NBA coaching is. (15-20 minute mark)

At one point Chuck says he gives this advice to his proteges

It's more about negotiations than it is about coaching.
And this from Dick Harter to PJ Carlissimo (told by Rick)

PJ, the thing you're going to have to understand about this is that when you're a college coach you can control your environment to a certain degree in terms of what goes on. In the NBA it's a zoo. There's only so much you can do and one of the things you gotta do is accept that and be able deal with it.
Chuck Daly then agrees with that point. Chuck adds to that thought that he "kinda let them (the players) think they were in control of it (practice in this case)".

Guess PJ found out the hard way about "zoo" when Spree tried to choke him out.

    Daly was a great guest.

    Good points, Naptown.

Unless you've been in coaching you reall don't know just how "political" it can be. Even at the pee-wee level there are politics involved though most of that comes from the parents and not those 6-10 yo rug rats.

We've all seen or heard what former college coaches go through once they get to the pro-level. It's not surprising that most don't stay long; they return to the college game. Why? Because they have more control over their players and less "egos" to please and fewer politics to handle regardless of which direction it comes from - agents (not in college you don't!), GMs (more like the college Athletic Director), owner (Board of Directors usually stay out of sports unless there's a major controversy involving their student athlets or the coach), or the player(s) (they're big kids; the most they worry about is looking good to the scouts until their senior year; then they start worrying about turning pro.).

I don't envy any pro NBA coach. It's no wonder Bird left the majority of the "coaching" to his assistants.
