As a person who follows the NFL only a little, I was wondering why are the Eagles considered by many to be Superbowl contenders?
Flavor of the week. Once people soured on the Bears, it's been a weekly battle between teams that have no business being mentioned above Chicago. First the Giants, then the Cowboys, then the Saints, now the Eagles.

My only regret is that the Bears don't have 3 NFC playoff games available to dispatch all 3 of those teams.

1-1 so far for me. 2-1 if the Pats hold on, though I'm pulling for the Jets.

My dad's been saying since week 3 that the Ravens are going to win the Superbowl...someone please provide a reasoned argument against that taking place, because I'm starting to fear the years of gloating that will ensue.

    ...the RAVENS!

The Chargers are a better team, and the Colts and Patriots are ripe to get the Upset, so either way the Ravens have 2 very tough games to go then they actually have to win the Superbowl, and the Saints(My pick to come out of the NFC) would also do very good against them.

They would? Back in October, in the SuperDome, they were down 35-7 to Baltimore after three quarters.

    http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/gamebo...0061029_BAL@NO

How have the Saints improved or the Ravens gotten worse to close that spread?

    = = = = = = = = =

But I'm not much help for you LG33, I've been saying they looked like a Super Bowl team for quite a few weeks now.

The Steelers won six of thier last eight after thier turnover-prone start. The two losses? To Baltimore by 27-0 and 31-7. And neither game was that "close", because while Baltimore's defense was that dominant but their offense - even with McNair - seemed conservative.

It wasn't just that their defense just freakin' dominated our pro-bowl offensive line, but their offensive line also dominated our defense that only gave up 17 points per game (we had a lot - 6 - of "return" touchdowns against our offense that should not be attributed to our defense.) They just mauled us.

When the Ravens and Charges meet in the AFC Title game, I expect the Ravens to maul the Chargers. Thier defense is the type of defense that can shut down LT - they have the ability to put pressure on the offensive backfield without sacrificing running lanes.

Watching the Ravens this season gave me "defense envy." We had the best defense in football last year, but it wasn't anything close to how the Ravens have played this year. And remember, I hate saying anything nice about Art Modell's team, but they've earned the compliment.

Ahh just the way I like it.. seriously! I could not ask for a better set of circumstances, given last year's arrangement.

This team after going 9-0 was able to look god-awful enough down the stretch to now be under the radar, finally !

We saw the enormous difference of what effort and elbow grease does for this much maligned defense. They are going to get pushed around on occasion , but as long as they swarm to the ball and actually wrap up that seems to work wonders

This is the fourth straight divsional playoff game appearance for the Colts, Everyone and thier brother is picking the Ravens to have their way, force Manning into bad decisions, and march right on to the AFC Championship game. Could that very well happen? Yes! is it a certainty like a good number have already stamped it, no way.

Some are going to point to Dungy and Manning's track record in the playoff's as grounds for thier argument which is understandable. Althogh I would actually use that to counter and say they certainly know what not to do by now. They have been in this situation time and time again recently , unlike a lot of teams.

All things even I always like my chances with the team that is more desperate, hungry and has that impending send of urgency, Can you imagine how desperate Manning Harrsion, Dungy and company are right now ?

The Colts are the only team to have made it to the playoffs the last five seasons, so this team has experience, it may not be very memorable experience for them, but regardless this is nothing new.

There certainly will be nothing left on the table going into this game, trick plays , unique subs and formations. etc.. Now desperation doesn't translate into a win, but it certainly doesn't hurt,.as long as you are able to maintain your focus and confidence.

I will say this, I expect to see the guttiest performance from Manning of his career. He has a good sense of how the league works and the small window of opportunity a team like this has. You can best believe he is going to leave it all on the field tomorrow win or lose. (I'm not one to make homer-ish statements like that, and I have had my share of issues with Manning and this team in the playoffs, but in this case I think it applies)

Hey Jay since when did the Regular season matter. Last year Colts 26-7 against the Steelers oops look how that turned out. Did either team significantly change nope. Playoffs are a whole new atmosphere.

    Are you kidding me?

We had several players miss that game with injury, and for two key starters that was their first game back from injury. Marvel Smith didn't even make it through the game before injuring his other ankle.

The biggest difference between the Steelers' 15-1 in 2004 and 11-5 in 2005 was the three-game losing streak in late November/ early December that was on-set by injuries, especially at QB, RB, and the offensive line.

Were the Saints missing a bunch of players that game? I don't know, I didn't pay a lot of attention to them, especially not that early in the season.

I've been picking the Ravens since about mideseason. When the Colts were 9-0, I was picking the Ravens to win. And I see no reason to go back on that now.

At least we'll lose to the eventual champs. Again.
